Hello, I have a dell optiplex 780 and the model of the motherboard is 0C27VV. I tried overclocking my q9550 with electrical tape.

My first attempt was putting electrical tape on the 2nd and 3rd pin under the clip, I followed this thread https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/overclocking-a-c2q-q9550-its-possible.3164926/
didn't worked, when I turned on my pc it showed 2 3 4 lights and the power button was amber.

My second attempt was following this tutorial http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?232678-E8xxx-Q9xx0-FSB-1600-pin-mod
did the same thing as the first attempt.

My third attempt was following this tutorial
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rsFVg3s3G0

it did boot up, but it didn't made any difference.

So what am I doing wrong? I did the exact same thing to all of these 3 but it doesn't seem to work on my optiplex 780.

Solution
Your motherboard is a Q45 chipset motherboard.
It does not support 1600mhz FSB processors.
Support is for 1333 and below.
The mod you are trying increases the FSB from 1333 to 1600 which your motherboard can not do..
I have done the same mod a few times but you need a capable motherboard.
