AU_Temp folders

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.perform_maintain (More info?)

I have several folders in the C:\Windows directory that I didn't notice
before:
AU_Temp, AU_Temp (2), AU_Temp (3), AU_Temp (4)
Even after Googling, I can't fiure out what they are and whether I need
them. All's clear on virus and spyware checks.

When all else fails, move the files to a different folder and see what
happens after that. In some cases, software updates get short-circuited
or are poorly designed and temporary install folders are not cleanly
removed.
