audigy won't play audio cd's

i installed an audigy card for a friend and it won't play audio cd's it will play mp3 cd's and anything off the hard drive. it will rip with no problem. the only player that will play the audio cd's unripped now is windows media player. we tried winamp and it won't play them either. what is wrong?

Did you connect the CD-ROM to the sound card? You need to use the 4-pin MPC to MPC audio cable to connect them.

yes i used the cable they gave me. i tried it both ways digitally and analog but it didn't make any difference. neither way would play the audio cd's.

Check the volume control. Maybe CD Player is muted.

i tried checking the volume control too. i made sure that everything i could un-mute was un-muted! Why is this happening only when i play audio cd's and not mp3 cd's? wouldn't they use the same volume thingy? Life should not be this difficult. :~(
