Audio and video sync issue, lag

Hi,

I have been experiencing lag, frame rate drops whenever there seems to be any intensive CPU related work. It seems to be exponentially worse over time. Video and audio go out of sync gradually and more and more.
I cannot play any games now and i can barely run a virus scan and use chrome at the same time.
Lag, video and audio sync across all software; chrome, IE, firefox, youtube, facebook etc
Occasionally comp will freeze and bluescreen during game and watching youtube.

Tried:

Updating bios
Disabling anti virus
Virus scan
Updating GPU drivers
Disk clean up
Unplugging older secondary HD
Taking case apart and cleaning and reseating everything; CPU,ram,GPU etc
Restarting router (Recently changed broadband and router)
Checked temps against OE limits
That's all I can think of so far...

Been getting by with c&c tiberian sun 😛

2. Are you listening to the audio over HDMI, or directly from the audio out of your motherboard?

The video lags behind the audio and my speakers are plugged directly into the motherboard

How many watts is your PSU? Does it have the 8+6-pin PCIe power connectors for your 980ti?

Hi the PSU is a CORSAIR GS800.

Not sure I follow - it is has been plugged in for a few years so I guess it has the connectors? or is there other ways to connect the card?

I am asking if there is one 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector going from your PSU into the graphics card?

2. Have you checked Device Manager to look for any yellow warning signs?

The malware - I just did a full scan with my anti virus (mcafee). What would you recommend for malware software?

For future reference should someone search the thread.

Am I right in my reasoning that a fresh install of windows would rule out it being a hardware problem? and point to a software or driver related problem?
Planning on wiping it the weekend and I'll post back the results.

Don't really want to build a new one because there are no games for PC that excite me enough :/

Although I am still testing, it appears the fresh install of windows has fixed the issue so it was software/driver related.
