Upgrade to 10 while the offer still lasts. Then try this:

Use a program called Driverpack Solutions. It will look for any outdated drivers or missing drivers and auto install them. I recommend getting the offline version for it.

The procedure mentioned there will probably work for windows 8 aswell. But why on earth would you want to stay on 8 when 10 is free?

I feel like Windows 10 is a data hog, and free doesn't always mean better. There's something sketchy about Microsoft forcing everyone to update to windows 10. And recently they released an update on Windows 7 that messes with ASUS motherboards. If the guy wants windows 8.1 drives, just help him out.

Keep on spreading the gospel, bro!
Especially since, regarding OSs, what's important is what you "feel" they're like.
Ask around, no serious power user hangs on to old operating systems.
As for the Win 7/ASUS thing, what's the pragmatical thing to do then? Recommend Windows 7 just to spite Microsoft or something? :))
