Audio driver for Windows 7 & ATI IPX450?

I have an older Gateway laptop model MX6426 that I've recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP.

Chipset is Xpress 200 RS480. CPUID says the southbridge is SB400 but you can see the chip and it says ATI IXP450 SB450.

Most all the drivers loaded correctly except for the audio. I've done some research and have tried a few different Realtek AC97 drivers but none of them work. The problem seems to be the audio hardware is older than Windows 7 will work with.

Any ideas?

Basically the thing is unsupported. You need to get lucky searching to drivers. Stuff this old, you are better off running Linux on them.

Yes, this is the conclusion I came to, also. Thanks for the input.

I tried Linux but it did not run very well. I'm surprised how well Win 7 runs.

I do have an external usb sound card and will give it a try, the only problem is the laptop speakers won't work.

I'm still trying to fix this. Gateway has drivers for Vista that I tried in compatibility mode for Windows 7 but it did not work.
