Audio lags/stutters when loading games & videos online

Recently got this PC put together by a friend. Works great other than when I decide to actually do anything I get a very abrupt grinding noise through my speakers or headphones. This only SEEMS to happen or be a problem when I load in games & videos. (World of Warcraft loading screen or Youtube in the background, for example), and seems to be in sync with any video lag I may have. I've looked online through various threads and can't seem to find any body with the same issue.

Here's what I've tired so far: Re-installing video drivers, as well as audio drivers. I've attempted using different jacks (front panel & back). Tried changing sample rate & bit depth.

As I stated before this seems to only happen when there's any form of loading going on. And the audio & video lag at the exact same time. Very loud & abrupt. I'm not at all knowledgeable on PCs so forgive me if I sound off.

Specs:
GPU - GeForce GTX 970
CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600k CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory - 16.00 GB Ram (15.92 GB usable)
Driver version - 365.19
Resolution: 1920:1080 60Hz
Windows 10.

if there's anything else you need to know about the rig itself, please be sure to let me know where to look for that info.

Thank you in advance for any replies. cheers.

The program you've recommended is in German, not sure how to add the EN extension but heres my results if you can decipher the language gap.

i appreciate your reply

Do you have something like Intel Enhanced Speed Step enabled in your BIOS?. It should be under power management settings or refer your motherboard manual. If it is there and enabled, disable it and check whether the problem persists.

nothing like that seems to be active. power setting is currently on "Balanced".

Sorry about that. After looking up how to access my bios, i saw no option matching that name.

heres a picture i took, sorry about the quality: http://imgur.com/QYEnEIF

problem persists after setting bios option to performance.

Asus Z 170-A

Speedstep can be found under Internal CPU Power Management in AI Tweaker section. AI Tweaker is under Advanced Mode.
Disable Speedstep. If the problem still remains, turn off Turbo Mode too.

Thank you for clarifying on how to find that option.

I've done both Disable Speedstep & turned off Turbo mode. Still experiencing the issue.

I have googled on the issue and many others have the same problem with this motherboard. The problem is with the power management feature of Realtek audio chip. This can be disabled via registry.
Run regedit and make the following changes.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Realtek\RAVCpl64\PowerMgnt]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"DelayTime"=dword:0000000f
"OnlyBattery"=dword:00000001

The Enabled setting is responsible for power management. By default it will be 0. Setting it to 1 disables power management. Restart your system.

The path I follow only takes me this far "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Realtek"
Can't seem to find RAVCpl64

Then those registry keys might be only for laptops for battery saving.
Any way you add those keys manually and see whether the problem is gone.
If you have an old BIOS version, update it to the latest version.
By the way, is your system overclocked?. If so disable overclocking settings.

What exactly are the steps to manually adding those 'keys'?

And no indication of Overclocking, i've not set anything differently in my bios since entering. Was preset to Normal setting.

Paste the following to notepad and save it as .reg. Then double click it to import it to registry

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Realtek\RAVCpl64\PowerMgnt]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"DelayTime"=dword:0000000f
"OnlyBattery"=dword:00000001

Also check whether you have the latest BIOS version. If not, update it.

Thank you for the lesson. I've done just that and still having this issue. Here's a screenshot to verify: http://imgur.com/mgV3OgJ

As for my Bios I'm searching around how to exactly update it, but I have found an update file on Asus' website, but it's a ".cap" file which I'm completely unfamiliar with.

Do you have nvidia audio installed along with graphic drivers?. Check whether windows audio settings shows both nvidia HDMI audio and Realtek HD audio. If both drivers are present, uninstall nvidia audio driver.

Yes the NVIDIA Drivers are there, here's a screeny: http://imgur.com/cKbhXzn.

I will uninstall the first one and post results.

edit: Problem persists after installing the first Nvidia sound driver in that list, should I go ahead and try uninstalling the other one I see?

Uninstall all Nvidia drivers including display drivers and HDMI audio drivers and Realtek Audio driver from Add/Remove programs. After that only install nvidia display drivers. Uncheck audio drivers in custom setup option. Then install Realtek audio drivers that came with motherboard CD.

Did just that, still having the problem

Is this audio issue only present while loading World of Warcraft?. What about other games?. Do you face the issue only while streaming Youtube or while playing videos with other media players?.
Is the game installed on SSD. If so uninstall it from SSD and install it on HDD.
