Recently got this PC put together by a friend. Works great other than when I decide to actually do anything I get a very abrupt grinding noise through my speakers or headphones. This only SEEMS to happen or be a problem when I load in games & videos. (World of Warcraft loading screen or Youtube in the background, for example), and seems to be in sync with any video lag I may have. I've looked online through various threads and can't seem to find any body with the same issue.

Here's what I've tired so far: Re-installing video drivers, as well as audio drivers. I've attempted using different jacks (front panel & back). Tried changing sample rate & bit depth.

As I stated before this seems to only happen when there's any form of loading going on. And the audio & video lag at the exact same time. Very loud & abrupt. I'm not at all knowledgeable on PCs so forgive me if I sound off.

Specs:
GPU - GeForce GTX 970
CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600k CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory - 16.00 GB Ram (15.92 GB usable)
Driver version - 365.19
Resolution: 1920:1080 60Hz
Windows 10.

if there's anything else you need to know about the rig itself, please be sure to let me know where to look for that info.

Thank you in advance for any replies. cheers.

Not just a problem when loading games, seems to happen whenever i'm loading in ANYTHING, for exaple heres how I test it: I'll start up a youtube vid for some sound, if i dont hear the noise when the video is loading, I'll open up another program (example Battle.net launcher), then the noise will inevitably happen.

Hard to explain sorry, but it has happened just randomly while watching a vid or even playing around with stuff I've recorded straight from the PC. Also IN GAME when i'm loading stuff in. Simply put, just happens when I'm starting up things.

I will absolutely try running stuff from my HDD rather than SSD

Uninstalled Chrome & WoW, reinstalled on my HDD. Still hearing glitchy sounds when I load up stuff, without anything else opened.

So the problem is only with World of Warcraft and YouTube streaming in chrome?.

Did you try Youtube on Firefox or any other browsers.

Does this problem occur with any other games?
Check whether an update is available for Wow.

I have seen people complaining about audio issues on Asus Z170-Pro Gaming motherboard.

Use any temperature monitoring software to check your CPU temperature. High CPU temperature might be a reason for this. If the temperature is more than 40 degrees on idle, then the thermal paste might have dried up and you have to apply a fresh layer of thermal paste.

Also consider updating BIOS. If you are not familiar with bios updating, seek a friend's help

no no sorry if i'm misclarifying but it happens with almost any program that requires any form of rending. ALL games give me this issue if i have a slight lag spike or something. I've used different browsers of course. And I doubt temp is an issue because it's a problem that occurs immediately when I turn on the PC. i'll try though.

As for my bios I've checked it's up to date.

Any problems with your mains supply?. Consult an electrician and check whether your mains power supply has proper earthing. Also test for leakage current on your cabinet.

Which SMPS are you using?. CPU usage rises during the loading of an application and hence there will be an increase in power consumption. Any weakness in the SMPS might cause improper power delivery during a rapid increase in CPU usage that might result in noise.

Are you sure that your speakers are fine?
