Audio via HDMI.

Say I have some high end Sound card with 7.1 output without hdmi output.
And motherboard with HDMI output..

If i connect my PC via motherboard HDMI to AV Receiver. will i get 7.1 audio output and all the features or my sound card via HDMI?

Note: Its just theoretical question still i have not bought the sound card.

No. They are separate audio sources. You will be able to get 7.1 audio, but you won't be able to take advantage of your sound card's own features. Some GPUs and motherboards have a header for connecting an discrete audio source to an HDMI transceiver though.
