I have a Targus power adapter 'brick' which I believe, the power source cable is still plugged into the boat at the bottom of the lake !
The Targus DC adapter has a 4-pin input, connecting to a cable, which had a cigarette-lighter plug. Does anyone know what the 4-pin-outs are ?
The thing is marked 11-28 VDC input, so the cigar-plug used the 12VDC connection. Which of the 4-pins = 12VDC ?
Targus model# 800-0096-001 A The brick is clearly marked DC AUTO/AIR ADAPTER... maybe the BOAT was the problem !
Any/all info is welcomed - thanks

I did not find any pinout diagrams and most of what I found seemed to be used adapters via ebay.

Automobile cigarette lighters use two wires to provide 12 volts. + being center plug. - the casing.

Key word being two.

How the cable and adapter go about converting that into a 4 pin input has a limited number of possibilites. Probably could be figured out in just a few minutes via a multi-meter.

May or may not be proprietary. May or may not have been changed in some manner.

But then you still need to find the applicable replacement cable.

My thought: it is likely to be much more straightforward and much more safer to just purchase a new power adapter and cable.

"Universal" is a very broad word. It may mean that a plug and port plug will fit together. It does not necessarily mean that the voltages and polarities match.
