Question Auto-Logged out of Windows every time I log in

Hello,

I have an ASUS 570D laptop running Windows 10. Tonight, after a couple of hours playing a game, I was suddenly looking at my Windows user login screen in the middle of the game. I logged back into Windows but within 1-2 seconds I was back at the login.

This repeated multiple times so I shift-restarted to get to the Windows restore option and rolled it back to the 18th October (1 week).

The restore worked fine, but the issue remains -- since the restore, I can only log into Windows for 2-3 minutes before I find myself staring at the login screen again, then each time I login again I am almost immediately logged out. (This is not a password / user details issue, as I do log in correctly each time, before being kicked out again).

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks for reading.

does it happen in safe mode?

  1. go to settings/update & security/recovery
  2. under advanced startup, click restart now button
  3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
  4. choose troubleshoot
  5. choose advanced
  6. choose startup settings
  7. click the restart button
  8. choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
  9. Pc will restart and load safe mode

Thanks for your reply.

That was last night. I shut the laptop down over night, then started up today and the issue seems to have stopped. I don't know what the cause was or if it will return.

And I'm not sure why shutting down overnight would have any affect, when shutting down multiple times last night didn't change anything.

i would scan pc and see if its okay

right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

other way of getting all the files is copy contents of c:/users/olderusername onto c:/users/newusername

then you have same access to all the files as other user, just might need to logon to a few things. Saves reinstalling windows.

Absolutely NOT! There are a great many things in a profile that are unique to that specific profile (including any corruption that may exist). Copying an entire profile in that manner is a guarantee of problems.
