Auto restart even when in idle or in BIOS

I'm getting random restarts and it's really been frustrating since I've almost replaced all the my PC parts with new ones. My PC restarts randomly when I'm surfing the net, playing games, etc. (even when PC is idle or in BIOS).

SPECS:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.8GHz
Palit Geforce GTX650
Transcend 4GB 1333
Cooler Master GX 550W Bronze
Gigabyte G41M combo
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 32-bit

All of the components are a week old. Hoping you guys can help me 🙁
It was running fine for a week whlie playing games like RE6 on high settings and DmC on ultra settings, then all of a sudden the random restarts began yesterday.

When I restart manually from windows, there is no beep before POST. But when it automatically restarts, there is a beep sound before POST. The beep sound only occurs when the pc has just been turned on and when it restarts after exiting the BIOS

Certainly yes the updates has a good role to play. And if it stays stable in safe-mode then I can tell you its software issue not hardware.

How could it be the MB?
Anyway i ran prime95 and after just 10min,cpu temp raised to 65. I stopped the test, after a few minutes the pc restarted

I think overheating is not the problem since it restarts even in idle or in bios.

Check RAM : http://www.memtest.org/

My prime suspects are MB and PSU. Yes overheating is not a problem. Try to borrow a PSU and a GPU from someone else and test it. Or, first test in safe-mode with all your components, see it stays stable or not. If not then remove the GPU and test it again in safe-mode(if you have on-board video).

Else disassemble everything except CPU/Heat sink fan, then install one component each time and test. BTW CM GX 500W is not a good PSU.

Already did memtest with no problems with ram. Safe-mode seems to be stable for me (with all components in place.) Gonna try my friend's PSU and report to you the results.

BTW my pc seems to be stable after installing windows updates. Played BF3 for about an hour. Does those updates have anything to do with my problem?

Hello again. Apparently my pc ran fine without any restarts for 3 days. I've been playing games for 3 consecutive games without any errors. But then, random restarts started happening again yesterday. I thought it was overheating problem for somewhat overusing the pc. So I installed a Thermaltake NIC C4. Temps were down to 35C-4-C at idle and 50C-52C at 100% load. So what could be the culprit? The PSU? The PSU is just brand new so could I just RMA it instead? I requested the store where I bought my video card to test the card and it ran fine with their cpu.

EDIT: my cpu just restarted while running in safe mode with networking. could it be my hard drive? running chkdsk now

I ran chkdsk and it restarted twice at 14% at step 4 of 5. Disabled auto restart on sytem failure. no BSOD

Before trying to replace any components, do a clean install of OS. See how the PC performs. Check the HDD with vendors diagnostics tool for health and performance. HDD could be faulty, if so replace it. If the problem persists then RMA the PSU first. And the last resort will be the MB, as you said earlier sometimes it beeps and sometimes it not, so I think the MB is dying.

Well I already did a fresh install of my OS a week ago. Sometimes it would be stable for days then it just keeps restarting again. I got passed chkdsk and said that the drive is clean. What I mean with the beeps is that it beeps when auto restart. From what I know restarting manually from windows without a beep is normal. My MB is just a week old.

I did a system file check and it said "Windows Resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

"Windows Resource protection ..." The good news is that there is a high chance this is completely harmless and nothing to worry about. Updates had a small bug in it which is causing SFC to incorrectly detect the file as corrupt. The file isn't actually corrupt, though. It is just SFC giving a false positive.

About the MB : it should beep under any circumstances cold boot/warm boot/restarting itself/or manually. Take a chance by updating the BIOS. Or RMA it.

About the HDD : Did you check it with vendors tool ? chkdsk will not help in this case. Check disk will not tell you about the SMART values and so on.

So my computer has been stable for the past 4 days straight. It was the crap PSU that was causing the problem. The replacement of the Gx550 will take 3-4 weeks which is too long so I bought and replaced it with a Corsair CX 500 since I'm on a tight budget. So my PC now has been stable for 4 days straight. Anyways, many thanks for your help mate. Cheers!

I had the exact same problem, I tried for 5 days to fix this problem, but my motherboard and CPU where only two month old, I checked the ram, one at a time, and the gfx card in another comp, even applied new thermal grease to the CPU and gfx card, I mean I really stripped down the CPU and heat sink and the gfx card right down to the bare boards and washed the heat sinks on both, making sure no water residue was left, I even tried applying one ram stick at a time, by now this was pissing me off, I even washed the CPU cooler to make sure there was no dust at ALL, I managed to re-flash my BIOS, even though it would reset in the BIOS, but managed to get a flash successful, I was so frustrated, after all I am 56 and been building pc's for 30 years, I stripped down the PC again and again.

Then just when I had given up and used my tablet for four days instead of my PC, and asked my beautiful partner to purchase a power supply for me as well as other part, I was willing to buy the most expensive UPS, I decided to search the net again for problem solving, I knew I had purchased all the best parts for my PC when I built it just a couple of months ago, and just hours before spending a shit load of cash to have my PC working again, I read on the net that a load of guys where having this same problem, then some one suggested that I eject the cmos battery and clean it and replace it immediately, I though you got to be bloody kidding, remember I have been building PC's for a very long time, never in the past have I ever had to clean the battery on a motherboard that was only two month old. MB and CPU where purchased at the same time, the bastards that sold me the mother board, had used it in the shop, god knows how long, anyway, I ejected the battery wiped it with my dirty T-shirt, replaced it, and hallelujah, it revived my PC, it is now running better than ever for the last couple of days, my PC is as follows:

CPU 4790k, still cant overclock the bloody thing.
gfx card amd HD6950, yea I know old but plays everything, overclocked.
Mem G-skill Sniper 16 gig
HDD 10TB, yes that's a lot as I am a designer
CPU cooler Thermaltake frio, excellent cooler
Power supply thermaltake toughpower 775w
motherboard MSI gaming 7 Z97
case Antec dark knight DF-85, seven fans for god sake, plus extra fans to keep gfx card cool.

I am so happy, my comp is ok, but hell I have spent hours and hours, no wait, it was days and days, of frustration, and to think all it was, just a bloody battery that needed cleaning with a bleeding dirty T-Shirt hahahahahahah

Now I am a happy chappy once again, just goes to show, never over look the simplest of things.
