Automatic login disabled?

I used to connect to a Windows 2000 Advanced Server thru the remote
desktop in my Windows XP box, and I've filled appropriate user name and
password, and I was able to login automatically. But after a reboot of
the server my client ceased to login automatically and I have to type in
user name and password each time. I checked login settings in Terminal
Service Configuration and the "Always prompt for passwords" checkbox was
not checked.

So the automatic login must have been disabled somewhere. Maybe in the
registry or group policy? I don't know exactly. I know that under
Windows XP there is a setting under Group Policy - Management
Templates - Windows Components - Terminal Services, but under Windows
2000 there isn't such a template. Where should I take a look at? I have
the administrator privilege of the server.

Thank you very much for your kindness, but I suppose my password isn't
that long. And I don't get any warning concerning "You can't logon...."
The client just connects and displays the logon dialog box as if I
didn't fill in anything.

Mmm, strange.
Do you have auditing of seurity events enabled? Do you see a failed
logon event?
Have you tried to delete your saved rdp-file (which contains the
encrypted password, and save a new one?
