Autoplay not working..

Hello.

Hmm, well this should be simple but it't turning out not to be.

My CD's no longer autoplay. And yes I am aware not all CD's have autoplay. But as an example, I know for a fact Baldur's Gate does, and it no longer will. I've confirmed this with other games and CD's that I have too.

And yes I did check and make sure that Auto Insert Notification is checked off. (found in Device manager, settings tab for my CD drive.) I have a 52X Creative CDROM drive. And I have Win 98 SE.

As a note, I remember having this problem before on my old system with Win95. To correct it, I had to change a setting in the registry soemewhere, to force autoplay to start working again.
I tried searchign for this again online (and at Microsoft knowledge base site) but no luck.

Any clues?

Thanks,
Zanatar.

Wow. Autoplay is the first thing I chuck when I turn on my system, win98 or win2k.

Anyway, there's a number of tweak programs that will let you do it, or you can edit the registry manually.

I use x-Setup 6.0. <A HREF="http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10106-100-4823995.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-1.4823995" target="_new"> X-Setup</A>.

I use TweakUI for a variety of things, including this Autoplay feature.

If I wanted to do it manually (ie: in the registry), where exactly is the string I need to tweak. That's the information that I'm looking for. I did it before, but I can't find the site that showed me how.

Btw, just as a side note, why do you want autoplay off?
I find it's just convinient.

I don't know what the memory string is, actually.
I guess it's just because the Autoplay feature sometimes bugs me - the autoplay screens for the discs will pop up whenever I insert them, and I find that I don't need them to most of the time.
