Using a AMD A4-4000 and a A55 Socket motherboard on a Ubuntu 14.04 OS, recently built, using a transcend single DIMM 4 GB 1600 Mhz RAM (JM1600KLH-4G), initially it was showing 3.75 GB and now all of a sudden Available RAM changed from 3.75 to 3 GB .... ! checked in all possible ways in software and systems applications showing only 3 GB now, does it mean 1 GB gone lost or .75 GB was also taken by the system if so it should have taken at the start itself right ? please explain, does adding new applications keep eroding RAM ?

Open a terminal and type: free -m
You should be seeing around 3700 for total memory. If not reboot while holding shift to bring up grub and run memtest to test the memory and let it run at least 5 passes. It may be a bad module.

thanks for the info, let me check and get back on it ......... !

Yes i did a free -m it is showing as 3076MB, its a 4GB so it is supposed to show 4098 right ?
