Hi!
Im building a new pc and i ve choosed the Core i5 7600K with the Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H Mother board. I was thinking to add the Vengeance® LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz C14 Memory Kit but I saw that its designed for x99 and 100 series chipsets. any sugestions on what RAM should I use?
Thnx.

Solution
B250 does not support overclocking. Some boards may allow you to change the multiplier on an unlocked CPU, but you can't adjust voltage. But that's why I'm saying I would go with MSI, they usually either allow you to adjust the multiplier or use enhanced turbo mode for max speed on all cores.

If the RAM was made when 200 series came out it would say for X299 and 200 series boards. It doesn't make any difference. The RAM was just engineered before the 200 series was released, so naturally it says for 100 series. I have the same RAM, it runs at 3200MHz (On Z series mobo) with looser timings and higher voltage. It is very good memory.

*I would also recommend a Z series mobo if you can afford it. You've got some expensive RAM selected...
Since you're going with the B250 chipset, you should be looking at the i5-7600(non-K version). The ram is the highest supported by the chipset so that's fine. In theory any ram so long as it conforms to the ram slots will be able to drop into the corresponding board, meaning any DDR4 ram can drop into a board that has DDR4 ram slots.

That RAM will work fine. I have the same RAM and it has worked in both ASRock B250 and MSI Z270 systems with Pentium G4560 and i7-7700K.

If you want the K series and you can't afford a Z-series motherboard, I would suggest MSI B250 board such as the Bazooka mobo. MSI has a cool little feature that allows K series CPUs to run at their max turbo frequency on all cores. Other boards may have the same feature, but I've only heard of MSI having their own.

*Otherwise you would be limited to 4.2GHz only on 1 core at a time, and something like 4.0GHz on all cores.

why? doesnt the b250 sypport oc?
and i know that there is no compatibility issue but im affraid it wont be the right buy since its a different chipset series than those that the ram was designed for. wont there be characteristics that wont be accesible? http://www.corsair.com/en-eu/vengeance-lpx-16gb-2x8gb-d...

Only Z series mobo supports oc. So you will need a mobo with Z270 chipset to be able to overclock.

thanks a lot.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z270-PC-MATE.html

do you think this is a good choice?

yeah but it will be more expensive and i frankly do not need that kind of power. also i live in greece and the 8th gen is only now starting to make an appearance. im i wrong?

are there such major differences that i should choose 8th gen?

here at the time there are avaliable i3-8100, i3-8350k, i5-8400, i5-8600k and i7-8700 (both k and not k).
will i3-8350k or i5-8400 be better than an oced i5-7600k?

im a student and currently want to build a machine to work VS 2017. I have in mind web and mobile. id like to work with xamarin. as you know all that has heavy emulators. but i dont need watercooling gpus and stuff. i would realy apreciate your thoughts on cpu and mb.

thanks a lot, but if i understand correctly, the only 3 series avaliable at the moment is Z370 which supports
oc. Buying a cpu that does not oc and matching it with that mb isnt a waste of money?

Yes it is, but then you will have to wait until early next year to get a B360 mobo.

but putting the hand deeper in the pocket and choosing i5-8600k with a z370 mobo will be enough for a decent system for 5 years on, wont it?

Yes it would, you will just need a cooler as well.

do you have a suggestion on the cooler? looking something vfm and simple

Depends on your budget, but decent budget coolers could be like Cooler Master 212 or Cryorig H7 or you can go full in for a more expensive Noctua.
