I am planning on building a computer with a Ryzen 7 3700x the https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-PRO-WIFI-rev-10#kf and a Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe SSD. I have a few questions about this.

CPU: On the Gigabyte website, it states that this motherboard supports Ryzen 3 out of the box but on PCPartPicker It states that it may require a BIOS update with another CPU to function. Is this something I should be concerned about?

SSD: In terms of the SSD, which slot would this go in? It seems that it should go in the top slot as it is faster, however, the physical size (to my eyes at least) seems like it would only fit in the slower bottom slot.

When you say SSD you mean your M.2 drive I assume. As to which socket to put it in if you have two of them it really doesn't matter my friend any will do. As for SSD just connect to SATA which ever you want usually SATA 1 and so forth and you should be set there. That 2TB 970 Evo must have cost you a arm and a leg but the good thing is it will have a long life as they don't die like spinning hard drive would. You will get 100k hours easy so long you don't abuse your rig by turning it off and on 100x a day and what not. God Luck 💯🙏🏽🧑🏽

Many of the B450 motherboards came out before the ryzen 3rd gen cpu's were released so they only supported gen 1 and 2 cpu's.In order for them to be 3rd gen compatible, they needed a BIOS update to be done using the older processers and then you could change them out for the 3rd generation cpu's. However, most B450's that have been manufactured in this past year should be 3rd gen compatible but it is not guaranteed,(unless it says ''3000 ready'' on the box.) The only B450 boards that are guaranteed to work with 3rd generation processers straight out of the box are the MSI MAX range. If you can see the box at a retailers before you buy with the ''3000 ready'' sticker, you should be good to go but if you are buying online,it's going to be hit or miss as they could of had them on the shelf for a long time.

Before shelling out an arm and leg for a Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe SSD I would greatly suggest to read the post here https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/sata-3-ssd-vs-nvme-m-2-ssd.3294947/
and especially what Solandri says.
If you continuously read very large files, than that could be of course another story.
