I am having RAM issues with a recent build. When using slots a2/b2 windows and the bios are showing both sticks as installed, but only 1/2 available. When switching the ram to slots b1/2 the system would not post. However, when I switched the ram to a1/a2 the system read the full 16gb as available.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

System:
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600AF
MOBO: MSI b450 tomahawk MAX (obviously)
-BIOS version 350
-CMOS reset preformed already
RAM: Tried both G.skill ripjaw 3600 and pny xlr8 3200 with the same issue,

Solution
2nd(A2) & 4th(B2) from cpu are the correct slots. If nothing is helping, it is possible there is a bent cpu pin or too much heatsink pressure. A couple reasons for nonfunctional primary slots in dual channel.
If you take and google the product number of the RAM (it should just be on the sticker on the side of them or the box they came in) you should be able to find out motherboard compatibility on the manufacturer's website. The earlier generations of Ryzen weren't compatible with a whole lot of memory. I also had a problem when i build my computer using a ryzen 1200, but Geil was willing to swap out my memory for one that was compatible.
hope this helps :)

Recommend loosening the cpu fan first and then checking for bent pins if all else fails?
