i am looking for a backup software that will bring my pc back to exactly the same desired state over and over again.
So that I can always return to a clean system in between.

My only idea is to somehow install 2 SSDs and mirror them.

The data can be stored on the extra HDD.

are there problems with the Windows registration?
and do you have other (better) ideas?

Solution
Macrium Reflect can do exactly this.
Run it to create an Image, saved on the HDD. You can save multiple Images.

When you need to return to that state, run Macrium, tell it what Image to use and what drive to apply it to.

With proper backups and a procedure for using them, mirrored drives are a waste of space and don't buy you any additional security.

Addendum to the above. A mirror is just that, an exact copy, at every moment in time. If you write/delete something from one, the mirror does exactly the same thing. Thus this in NOT what you are asking for.

As posted above, you can use Macrium Reflect. There is also another product, Deep Freeze that will do the same thing by locking down a given configuration, and returning to that configuration by simply rebooting.
