Question Bad CPU?

Hello folks, I need some help. I think I may have a bad CPU. I’m not sure I’ve tried running MemTesr 86 because my system would crash and was trying to reinstall windows, but would not complete the install. It stopped running saying there was too many errors. Do I need to replace my processor? Also I try testing different memory sticks and still got errors.

One reason for MemTest errors can be bent contacts in the CPU socket, associated with the two IMC channels in the CPU. Carefully remove the CPU and examine the delicate contacts in the socket from different angles. If you inadvertently dropped the CPU into the socket, you may have damaged the pins.

Another reason is you might have the RAM plugged into "sub-optimal" sockets and the BIOS hasn't set the correct timings (a bit of a long shot). Typically you need to plug RAM into channels A2 and B2 on a 4-slot mobo. Check your mobo manual, but this tends to mean the 2nd (A2) and 4th (B2) slots away from the CPU.

If you've been testing pairs of DIMMs, or even worse 4 DIMMs, try a single stick of RAM in slot A2, without XMP enabled. Run MemTest. You might be able to track down a bad DIMM or two.

If all else fails, source a cheap (compatible) CPU from somewhere.

Ryzen 9 12 cores: could be several CPUs, please be more specific. Same for memory. Give the timing, the number of modules. What is the motherboard, the PSU? Is it a new or an old computer? Did it ever work?

The problems you are having sound a lot like a RAM issue to me and details are important.

Could be cpu, could be the ram could be the mobo (though the last is pretty unlikely).

Can you run memtest with one stick of ram in the a1 slot?

If that works or is faulty try the other stick to see if that one is ok. Try the one at a time.

If both are faulty see if you can borrow a ram stick that tests ok in another pc. If that gives issues too then it’s probably not the ram (or at least not just the ram).

If you still have issues see about borrowing another cpu to see if that’s the culprit.
