Bad performance with r9 290?

Hi,

I bought an ASUS r9 290 OC Edition a few days ago. I expected i could run (almost) all games on ultra, but when I tested it with tomb raider, it wasn't really fluid at all times.

I sometimes have servere drops to 25 fps!
Sometimes it does get up to 60 fps, but sometimes it is also 'stuck' at 40 fps.

I was thinking of a CPU bottleneck, but when I monitored all my cpu cores this was not the case. No single core was ever above or at 80%.

GPU temps are also not the problem because they never get higher then 72 degrees celcius.
CPU temps are also not too hot.

I have already tried to reinstall my drivers with DDU, but this didn't help.

My pc specs are:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1100T + Cooler Master Hyper 612S cooler
GPU: ASUS R9 290 DirectCU II OC Edition
PSU: Antec TruePower Blue 750W.
Mobo: Asrock 990FX Extreme 4
Memory: Adata XPG Gaming V2 12GB DDR3-2000 CL9 triple kit

What could it be?

you have a good cooler
have you overclocked your cpu?
if not,youshould
overclock it to 4ghz or higher.. it will get fixed

With PassMark PerformanceTest, I got a score of 6095.
The average for a r9 290 is 6,531. (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html)

it isnt hard to overclock AMD processors

Disable all fancy power saver features like cool and quiet etc
set cpu settings to manual
raise the voltage to one step higher
raise the multiplier to 4ghz

ok.. there are lot of overclocking guides for your cpu and mobo

you should google it for more details

Another (maybe stupid) question:
The core temp can't be higher then 62C right? Or was is the socket temp?

62c is the safe zone..

more than 65c is dangerous

Running stable (untill now.. prime95 is still running) @ 3.96Ghz now. Seems like a high enough speed for me. My memory is running at 1333Mhz now, but the official website states: "1600 to 2400 Mhz".
How can I change this?

ram settings are usualy below cpu settings in your mobo bios

you can go to ram settings and change the voltage to 1.5v

change the speed to 1600

1600 is enough for your system

Yay! Works pretty awesome now! (alomst always) A constant 60 fps now (with v-sync)
Also used a graphic preset in tomb raider, instead of a custom one.
