Bad RAM?

I did some upgrade shopping this past weekend and bought two 512MB sticks of DDR from Newegg. Everything was peachy, it arrived early, blah blah blah until I installed the things today. My computer starts just fine, gets into windows xp and everything, but the machine (seemingly) randomly restarts. A few times there were artifacts on the screen before it happened, and once my mouse (but not my keyboard) froze right before it restarted. And it takes a random amount of time for the restart to occur. I'm assuming it's the new RAM, but I also don't want to miss something. It couldn't be the power supply or something, could it? The RAM is compatible with the motherboard and everything.

What kind of memory did you buy?

You could always try to run www.memtest86.com to test the memory for errors.

Also, what were you doing when your machine restarted? Were you running any applications?

I ran MemTest86 and it said there were errors when it ran test 6. I'm not sure whether this automatically means the RAM is crap. When the computer restarted sometimes I was running a program (Firefox or a game) but other times it didn't even make it into windows. It really was pretty random.[/url]
