Bad Sectors, what to do now?

Hello,
My WD External Hard Drive has file system errors that Windows cannot fix. I need to safely remove data but I am not interested in saving the drive. I have run scans and they indicate "too many bad sectors .." What is the next thing I should do and what software would you recommend? All I want is to recover the files. Thanks much,

Try to use rawcopy to copy the data to another place and trash the drive.

Sorry, but I don't know what rawcopy is. Once I copy it, will it be readable? I am really nervous about doing something I don't understand. Another member mention doing SpinRite first. What is that and should I do that?

I just downloaded SpinRite 6 and I need help me getting the boot cd to work. There seems to be no technical support from GRC either by email or phone. The bootable cd gets us into dos but then does nothing......any advice?
