Hello,My computer has decided not to recognise any software discs. but my lap top accepts them. Is there anyone out who can supply me with an idiot guide to help me resolve this problem

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Maybe it's Autoplay options have gone astray. Right click the optical drive in My Computer, go to Properties and click on the Autoplay tab. Select the option to "Run setup" on any software disk that turns up and tick to do that every time. Blob teh Radio Button to do that every time rather than "Choose an option", click Apply and OK your way out and you might find they work now.

If you ever want to pop in a software disk without it auto-starting, hold down the Shift key while the disk loads and that cancels the operation.

Then you head for Device Manager and sort it out in there. If that fails you go to the store for a repplacement but you can't answer every eventuality from the first post - when the OP comes back he'll tell us what he found and someone can make further suggestions.

Anyway, he asked for an idiot guide and I was here so I posted! 😀
