I work with some of the high up Microsoft reps at my government job. It's no joke, their address says it all "Microsoft Way". When your with them you live, breathe, sleep and eat MS and dare not anything else. That guy could have lost his job, and I sure he received major butthurtz for getting caught with that phone.

[citation][nom]etichi[/nom]Furthermore, if I was that guy I would of not let him touch my phone. IT'S MINE not his. So I go into work am I expected to hand over my property to my superiors on their whim? Actually, that employee could have a legitimate harassment complaint. If you think that is ok then you should have your head checked. I don't care if he is the CEO. He was out of line as usual.[/citation]

What does it say about your company when people who have the ability to attend a meeting with a multi billion dollar company are buying competing companies products.. Its about image. You as an employee who can sit with the CEO of said company should be thinking about the company's image as well. If hes some lower level guy who just opens the door for people its different than if hes a guy who attends meetings with CEO's..

etichi, you shoot your mouth off and you don't back it up. You claimed America wasn't #1 anymore, and I challenged you to tell me who is. You obviously couldn't do it.

Well, let's take a look real quick. As I said, I assume we're talking about computer technology, since that's the context of the conversation, so let's see:
Intel... nope, they're in Santa Clara, CA (USA)
AMD... nope, they're in Sunnyvale, CA (USA)
Motorola... nope, they're Schaumburg, IL (USA)
TI... nope, they're in Dallas, TX (USA)
NVIDIA... nope, they're in Santa Clara, CA (USA)
ATI... Ontario, Canada.. yay! Oh wait, bought out by AMD in 2006, crap!(USA)
IBM... nope, Armonk, NY (USA)
Dell... nope, they're in Round Rock, TX (USA)
HP... nope, they're in Palo Alto, CA (USA)
Apple... nope, they're in Cupertino, CA (USA)
Microsoft... nope, they're in Redmond, WA (USA)

I could go on, but I trust I've made my point. Yes, I know there are computer manufacturers like Acer, Toshiba, Sony, etc. who are outside the US. I am also aware that almost all motherboard and memory come from Taiwan, etc. But the point is, America is still very much #1 in computer technology. America leads the world in technological innovation, and will continue to do so for a very long time to come. You may not like some of the company leadership, but that's another discussion.

So the next time you feel like shooting your mouth off... don't.

It is alright to defends someone's right to buy what they want.

But c'mon the guy is an idiot.

A new hire at Apple should go into a meeting carrying his Dell laptop, then plug is zune in to charge it. And he should do this while wearing an "I love Windows" t-shirt. He should then shake Steve Job's hand and say " So do you think that we are going to get bitch slapped by the zune HD or what"?

We would see how long that guy would last.

Even MacDonalds employees are smart enough not to walk into work with a bagged lunch from Burger King.

well if it was a person who so high up, why would he need to take a picture of Ballmer anyway. The point is he wasnt that high up, and it was probably a once in a liftime sighting for him. He got excited and tried to take a pic of him, so he could say look I met Steve Ballmer. I cant imagine anyone that sees Ballmer at meeting regularly is going to try to snap a photo, why would they if they are just gonna see him next week. Use a little deductive reasoning. I do think it was probably a brain lapse on the employees part. Personally I wonder what he would have done had somebody whipped out a blackberry. Cause quite frankly I would have told Ballmer to go bite himself if he touched my Blackberry.

[citation][nom]etichi[/nom]@frozenland:I personally find Ballmer disgusting. Fat and obnoxious. I tried to make a correlation between this guy and the majority of Americans. Obviously it fell on deaf ears. It was a bad reference. My bad. But every time I see this guy I cringe for some reason. I really don't like him. The guy basically bullied this employee and all of you are like " that is soooo coool. I love Steve Ballmer" Ballmer needs his plow cleaned.[/citation]

Your personal opinion of America does not correlate with a statistical statement that it's not #1 - that requires data. You know, numbers.
Excuse my persistence (and some anger), but I'm just sick of seeing "America sucks because Americans suck" all over the place. That's no arguement to make.

[citation][nom]etichi[/nom]@keither5150:I seriously don't think this guy was sitting around the table with Steve because he was a high ranking official. Why would he be taking his picture if he was one of his captains? It sound like this was a code monkey or some other lower level guy that doesn't see Steve on a day to day basis. Like the article states, someone from a Windows team. This usually means some software dev team. You know, the guys in the back room making all this magic happen. The ones you show respect to. You, like so many other on this forum, like to claim this guy is an idiot. The only idiot was Ballmer, as usual. Oh yeah, working smart? iPhone can help you do that. Ever go on business travel with an iPhone, it is extremely smart.[/citation]

That's a good one. The BB rules business. I can personally think of 55+ professionals that are required to have a smart phone.... and guess what?

Nobody has an iphone.

What app makes it smart?

I had a good laugh.... thanks man.

But seriously, this guy is too dumb to work for any company. He needs to work in a video store.

Anyone who is not laughing at this guy's level of intelligence is either 16 years old and has no life experience, or is one brick short of a load themselves.

The level of idiocy is so high that I looked to see if this was one of TH's weekend jokes.

Microsoft can't be against employees using competitive products, where else will they get their new feature ideas?

It's worked for them for years now.

Apple's new ipod now has a tag and download later feature . New to ipod, but a feature of Zune for the last 3 years.

Who copied who here?

mlopinto2k1 has a point.

Balmer should have just gave a look. The employee's co-workers could have filled him in on how big of a idiot he was later.

[citation][nom]etichi[/nom]@amabhyspoken like a true american. Afraid, paranoid, fat, obnoxious, violent and lazy.[/citation]

If you can even remotely prove that, I would be happy to not call you a dumbfuck.

What did he do? throw lots of hundred dollar bills (Fake ones of course) then cry for his empty wallet then makes explosion motion of it blowing up on his face (or pants)? Haha classic.

Hey it's friendly competition, no one gets hurt (yet). Keep it up.

I will say AGAIN that I am appalled at the amount of ignorant Apple bashing. Grow up and learn to have at least respect Apple if you don't like them, you don't need to prove your ignorance by raging about them when your not even willing to give them a chance.

Anyways...I would honestly die if I worked for Microsoft and I couldn't choose my own phone/mp3 device/computer/anything tech. Does he work for M$? Yes, does that mean that he HAS TO BUY EVERYTHING MICROSOFT or get fired? Well it god damn shouldn't. That does seriously prove that they're scared of it when your employees have lost free choice because they have to support your own product (regardless of performance etc.) That employee should be entitled to his own personal choices without harassment in the workplace and or about his personal preferences and decisions. It's complete bull**** he can't make his own choices without ridicule.

@etichi: Now if you posted like that all the time I would be fine with it.

When you say "Ballmer is a fat american" people will be pissed.

FYI to non Americans. We are not all the same, just like all Irish aren't drunken bastards, Kenyans runners, etc. Stereotypes, funny? Yes for the most part. True? Not really (again for the most part.) We are not all the same people, we have stupid people, fat people, intelligent people, rednecks, lazy people, really nice people and everywhere in between, pick your words carefully when you start to pick on over 300 Million people at once.

And also, etichi, what country do you live in? You seem to have quite a high opinion of yourself. I'm not American, but I do have the common sense to realize stereotypes are stereotypes, and not meant to be taken literally. If you care to disclose your country I'm sure we can find many insults for you as well :)

Stereotypes are created based on the perception of reality that one or many group makes of one another, or as is often said, there's no smoke without a fire... get it?

Just had to say it...

I'm from Portugal, and since i'm posting in a "forum" in USA, i feel obligated to state that Portugal is in Western Europe. All of you who are saying USA is #1, just answer me why in hell the vast majority of the globe looks at you sideways, why is there so many people that just don't like Americans??? I can't answer that for myself, but i can say one thing, and this is my opinion, so no facts here... i think most americans, or the "american way", are selfish and egocentric.

In UK BBC show Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, the host, once went in a journey accross the USA, and he started to question random people in the street, asking questions about other countries and continents... and surprise surprise, not even one could give one correct answer, failing miserably. Not even when he grabbed a globe and asked people to point out continents and/or countries... Just showing how much the average american knows of the rest of us...

Cheers,

André

[citation][nom]jellico[/nom]...Yes, I know there are computer manufacturers like Acer, Toshiba, Sony, etc. who are outside the US. I am also aware that almost all motherboard and memory come from Taiwan, etc...[/citation]

Sony global HQ is in the US... :)

Also could the Americans here just ignore etichi please? You're only proving his point by slandering him and egging him on by paying attention to him.

Also Australia is the fattest nation on earth: 26% of adults are obese and 50%+ overweight.

while the iphone and ipods are good in some ways, their bad points far outweigh the good points and I feel that even apple hates it

extremely hard to copy your music from the device

internal battery thats nearly impossible to replace (not good since the batteries don't last very long)

the product is basically designed to screw the customer over, and the zune isn't much better

obnoxious: Isn't that American charm? This is more of a subjective one but many hold Americans as some of the rudest. to boot Americans drive slow in the fast lane. WTF?[/citation]

Funniest thing here, there was a survey done a few months ago posted on MSN (and many others were done as well) and most every other country in the world feels that France is the most obnoxious and the rudest people.

The French tend to not try to learn the native language when there and many other factors.

You could talk bad about America all you want but in the end its useless as every other country has just about the same setup and same set of people: Hard working, lazy and uneducated.

but alas PC products still get thier tech here. Thanks to IBM, Intel and AMD to name a few.
