bare minimum cpu to run an asus strix gtx 980 ti video card?

I wanted to put a pc together and i seen a ggod price on Ebay for an asus strix gtx 980 TI overclocked video card(which i heard is a good card)all I'll be doing is mainly gaming With it,i jus wan t to make sure he chip can run the card with no resistance.Being the card is gonna run me 700 buks I'm trying to get everything else cheap as possible,used even,knowing the motherboard and chip will be the most expensive.So whats the bare minumum Intel model cpu i can use and what mobo type the most beneficial?

A 980ti for $700 isnt a good price for starters even considering current gpu prices.
Assuming its second hand or refurbished makrs it an even worse buy.

To answer your question a fairly high clocked i5 from sky/kabylake , the i3 8100 from the current coffee lakes , or a ryzen 1200,1300x,2200g from amd.

& they are the minimum you want to be looking at.

I'm using an overclocked i7 960 from 2009 and it runs fantastic in games. I'd look at an i5 or Ryzen 5 if you are going with newer parts; if you find a good deal on ebay for any system that has an i7 like a 2600 or 3820 for cheap, that would be another option. That being said; if you can snag a GTX 1070 at MSRP it performs on par with a GTX 980Ti.

Yes, it will be roughly the same. My GTX 1070 and GTX 980Ti trade blows; 980Ti wins sometimes, but not by a lot. Also the STRIX Coolers on the 980Ti are not the best; I had to RMA two of them for fans going bad.
