Which will last longer? Rechargable AA batteries or a CRV3? My camera
is a Nikon Coolpix 3200 which ate the included AA batteries in 3 days.
Thanks.

You'll take an inch but you'd love a mile.

I don't quite see what you're asking..

Rechargable nickel-metal hydride batteries (NiMh) could easily last you
a year or more.. You throw non rechargable CRV3's out when they're done.

Rechargable NiMh AA's are the absolute, hands down best choice. Don't even
consider anything else.

The CRV3 will probably last about twice as long as a fully charged NIMH
battery set. On the other hand, the NIMH can be recharged 500-1000
times, and after a few charges it will last longer than it does
initially. Give them 3 or 4 recharge cycles before giving up on them.

Of course you could get rechargeable CR-V3s, which, in my Oly camera,
give me better performance than NiMh's, though the NiMh's are cheaper up
front and do work well. Forget Alkalines. The rechargeable ones are very
good for flashlights.

Rechargable batteries should last significantly longer than alkaline batteries.
Read the manual.

Yes, I figured that - but I am asking about rechargable vs. Lithium
(the crv3). Anyone know? The manual says all will work in the camera,
but doesn't say anything about their lifespan.

Ok.
How many AA batteries.
CRV3 cells do around 3000mah at 3V
This is 9000mWh.
One AA NiMH cell does 1.2*2200=2700mWh.
So, for three AA cells, about the same, less than four.

All will depend on loads.

If you mean shelf life "last longer" typically lithium can sit for 10 years
and still be mostly charged.

I've been using 4 x 2300 mAh rechargeable NiMH in my Sigma SD-10, which
otherwise needs 2 x CRv3. There is no contest; the CRV3 combo lasts
about twice the amount of shots, then dies instantly. The NiMH fade, but
can be persuaded to come back for a few shots by resting (not always the
case with all cameras - the Sigma is technically a 5v camera, and well
suited to the 4 x 1.2v produced by NiMHs, though able to take the 6v
provided by the CRv3s).

The big thing is the cost. Two of the disposal lithium batteries cost
$35 in the UK (£9 each), while the same money will buy a complete set of
4 AA NiMHs and a charger, which will do several hundred 'runs' before
getting old. Two sets of NiMHs will match one loading of CRV3s in
capacity. I like my digital photography to be low-cost in consumables.
So no more CRV3s.
