Battery Optimizer?

I have a Compaq laptop bought 18 months ago and the pre-installed version of
XP had a battery optimizer. A week ago I bought an HP laptop whose
pre-installed XP lacks the optimizer.
a) Has that feature generally been discontinued?
b) I have the XP CDs that I got with the old laptop. Could I try to install
that feature on the new machine or will that reinstall XP completely and
possibly wreak havoc?

Thanks,
A.

What makes you think that the battery optimizer is an XP feature and not
an OEM-added feature? If you try to install something from another OWM
disk it might violate the EULA and your warranty.

Sometimes computer manufacturer's add things to a Windows setup. This is
probably the case with the "battery optimizer." Was this a program that ran
down the battery and then recharged it? Useful with the older laptop
battery types but deemed unnecessary with the newer ones.
