I have a very odd situation.

This is my rig:

AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Core 2.5GHz
4.00 GB Ram
Radeon 6950 2gb Dirt Edition
Windows 7 Ultimate
Power Supply: Coolermaster GX Bronze 750W

I was previously running a Radeon 4770 512mb graphics card, and BF3 run fine, I could play for hours and it wouldn't crash.

I just bought a Radeon 6950 2gb Dirt 3 Edition, (and just recently returned another Radeon 6950 2gb because the game would crash), and I am having the same problem. After about 5 minutes (sometimes less), the game will hang and crash (Battlefield 3 has stopped working).

I have played Starcraft 2 on the highest settings, and have lowered BF3 settings to Medium, High, and Ultra, and it still crashes.

I doubt that I have the terrible luck that I got two bad cards, any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks!

DId you unistall all of the previous drivers? Have you tried re-installing Battlefiled 3? WHat PSU do you have? Have u tried to overclock the gpu? And is this the only game that crashes?

Yes, I uninstalled all of the previous drivers.

I have not tried re-installing BF3.

PSU = Coolermaster GX Bronze 750W.

I did not OC the gpu, and yes, it is the only game that crashes.

Well, I just played for about 1 hour, 30 on medium, then I got bold and switched it to auto (ultra/high on most), and it worked for 30 minutes, then map changed and 2 crashes in 10 minutes.

I have had the same issue. Was running a HD4870 then upgraded to an HIS HD 6870 and BF3 crashes and most of the time won't even load up, just a black screen then crash to desktop and get error message that driver has crashed and repaired its self. Tried all the driver updates, reinstalling/fixes etc. Even changed voltage and settings. Still the problem exists.
I have now put my HD4870 back in and can play to my hearts content without any issues. So guess we will have to wait until DICE and AMD sort this out!!!!

Hi all i know somwone with the same problems. He updated his rig and got a 6870 battlefield 3 crash but all other games work. We have tryed all the fix's but it's still the same.
On the nvidia side i play the game with my BFG 8800gt on low settings for hours on end.
I updated my BFG 8800gt for a asus gtx 570 i wanted more power to play on ultra settings.
I reinstalled new windows 7 64 bit got all the new updates played the game and crash after 5 to 7 mins of play it just lock's up.
This same rig was playing but with my old card in the day befor, it had to be something i just installed or my new card.
After looking i found i had installed some asus software with the driver disk it was called gamer osd.
I uninstalled the gamer osd and all was fine.
I think AMD and Dice have to come togever on this to sort it out.

on toms hardware forum, radeon cards of model 6950 and 6990 also crashed while testing battlefield 3. they said that it was due to the latest driver updates provided specially for battlefield 3. but at last, when changing ram form 8gb to 4 gb seemed to fix the problem. but i dont fully know that it totally fixed the problem while used longer.

Ok, well I got everything working perfectly.

I reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit, and installed the drivers from http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx, (11.11 Win7 64 bit), and everything is working fine.

I'm guessing it had to do something with the old drivers and the new drivers, but it has been working fine for a few days now (the first day after I reinstalled everything I played for several hours, and my card's temperature even got almost to 60 C, OC'ed to the max and everything), and it works like a charm.

I guess this is a last resort type of thing, but I did need and was planning on doing a fresh install at some point.

Good luck!

Splendid
I know the feeling BF3 is a major pain in the butt, I've gone from cpu upgrades to ram upgrades and now it crashes with my SSD and only with BF3, no other game gives me grief like this.
Hopefully more and more updates will be released to fix a lot of the problems we all face with BF3. You just wanna throw the game in the bin sometimes.
