Was thinking of starting a thread about Battlefield 3 on Toms.
Subjects:
1- Gameplay ( tips, glitches 😀 )
2- Opinions about maps and weapons ( Ideas on changes to maps or Guns for Christmas )
3- Screenshots or videos ( montage or funny moments....preferably the funnies 😉 )
4- FAQs ( PC requirements etc.... though this has mostly been covered by the sticky )
5- Some other stuff that we shall think of.......

Subjects to Avoid:
1- Criticism on Call of Duty series ( Don't like, Don't hate it, just Don't want any flaming )
2- Asking for CD key or "borrowing" BF3 accounts
3- The usual No Nos in life and on Toms

not sure if Guam or Hawaii, but the best ping I could get on an American server is 300ms.

Great, a new BF3 thread has opened ^^

Could anyone give knowledgeable input on whether these systems would, and how well, run BF3 please (all laptops as you can see):

i3 2310m + GT630M - how well, and would the CPU hinder the GPU?
i5 2410m + GT610M - would it run in an enjoyable way?
AMD A8-4500 (Trinity) + Dual AMD Graphics 7640G (integrated) + 7610M (discrete), asymmetric xfire. Does anyone have any real experience with this or anything similar?
i3 2350m + GT520MX - would it run in an enjoyable way?
i3 2367m (ULV) + GT620M - how well, and would the CPU hinder the GPU?

I know BF3 for a fact BF3 isn't CPU intensive, but a core i5 is still generally advised. I have, however, seen a friend play on his ULV i3 2367 + GT640M system, which ran great. The CPU runs at 1.4 GHz which is really low, but maybe it just doesn't have much of an impact.

I'd really love if anyone could give me any insight on this matter, thanks in advance!

They are all on the extreme low-end for BF3. What are you looking to do?

If you're going to play BF3 on mobile, I'd suggest that you get a Lenovo Y580.

Core i7-3630QM
4GB DDR3
GTX660M
Full HD Display

All under 1K USD 😀

your friend's GT640M is probably the "normal" 640 not a LE version,
the 640M non LE is just a 650M underclocked, which is a 660M underclocked, which is a desktop GT650 with 2 GB of Vram

I know this is pretty low end for the game. I just want to know from anyone with either direct experience with this kind of systems or enough knowledge to predict their behavior with BF3.

I would love to get the Lenovo Y580, as I am a big fan of both Lenovo and that particular model, but after researching literally every single laptop available in my country (Portugal, and having it shipped from elsewhere hasn't seemed like an option so far) for the past three weeks, this is definitely the best I can do with my 500 euro budget :) (the first two options actually cost more but I managed a discount on a local Clevo reseller).

And my friend's GT640 was actually an LE, I forgot to mention it. I don't recall exactly whether it was running alongside an i3 2367M ULV or an i5 2467m.

Anyone with precise information would be very welcome! Thanks

These are are from the Acer Aspire V3-571G-9435 (I recently had the the Acer Aspire V3-571G-6602 with the 630m and BF3 was unplayable)

Product Features:

Intel Core_i7_3610QM Processor 2.3GHz (6MB Cache)
6 GB SDRAM RAM
500GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
15.6-Inch Screen, NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

**Note, most benches you find will be from a single player run. MP is a whole other monster and would seriously lag. And BF3 online is just as much tied to CPU as it is GPU.

Here's my 2600K while playing (usage actually dropped once I alt tabbed)-

Thanks for the extensive answer, Russk1. I was finding it very weird you'd say it was unplayable in a GT 630M, since even the GT 620M reports a very playable 27.3 FPS (albeit under an i5 3210M) on notebookcheck. As for the 630M, it reported a very good 34-44 FPS (this is all in low settings, I don't care about more than that when going for a budget laptop ^^).

But then I read what you said about the benches being commonly on single player, and that MP was a whole different thing, and that actually makes a lot of sense. I still find it very weird that an average of 34-44 FPS would drop to unplayable when going into multiplayer, but oh well, it just might be. My statement about B3 not being CPU intensive also came from benches, so I guess you'd be right on that one too.

And amuffin, I cannot buy american-based laptops, I'd have a lot of issues. Plus, my budget is 500 euro 😛 the 630M is already pulling it ahead by some 35 euro that I will have to get somewhere else.

Thanks everyone so far!

^Come to Malaysia.
Y580 at 500euro including sales tax 😛

but seriously, no Y480/Y580 in Portugal? the best selling model in Asia and North America not available? :heink:

try googling it on google portugal, if it's on Lenovo portugal, chances are there is a distributor in portugal with it, just gotta find it

Being competitive, I personally wouldn't play BF3 on a laptop unless it's designed gaming laptop. While I complain about cheaters, my biggest complaint is lag and trust me, BF3 has plenty of that (and head-scratching spawns)... and to add FPS lag on top of it would just compound both the network and keyboard/mouse input lag.

Yea, I blame it on the server system in BF3......
I can get 5ms ping in TF2 with 48 players...yet in BF3, I always get a min of 90.

All Dice has to do is change everything from client-side to server-side. It will add over-head to the servers but general gameplay would be better.

As for the horrible spawns? I don't know, but I have plenty of those spawn/die scenarios. I don't know how many games I've started only to be initially spawned right in the middle of a complete enemy team of 32. Nothing like seeing all your enemies getting ready to kill you... these are the times you wish you had C4!

Wow, are you even half-serious? That is literally half the price. Are you talking about the one with 1080p display?

I am actually going to Malaysia for the first time next summer. If I knew that I wouldn't have gotten myself a 1k Asus N56VZ... Damn.
Could you please give me a link to a reliable store with such a deal?
Thanks!

PS: No I don't think there is Y580 in Portugal. I've searched for a really long time and yes, it's pretty retarded. It might be me who's retarded and can't find it, but I've seriously looked thoroughly and found an array of Lenovos, just that one wasn't available (don't think I've actually seen any Y-series actually)

I see.....would really wanna play with him in the future...
could just be really bad luck though, seeing as he has colonel rank, I doubt he's that bad.

On a side note, I still can't find myself enjoying TDM as much as squad death match,
spawn is just too random for me

Well, if you're looking into buying a laptop from Malaysia, you could also buy it through me 😛

Yeap, Y580 Full HD screen is available below RM3K MYR, which is 750Euro....(got the exchange rate wrong, soz ),
but yea, the N56VZ cost just about the same here in Malaysia ( SRP ). It's not you, It's Lenovo

about the availability of the Yseries, I think the closest place you can get it could be the UK.
Not even Lenovo Spain has it..... 🙁

Yeah I'm not big on the vehicles. Just not my style.

What's your gamer tag? I'll add you.

Really, I could order through you? Damn, thanks!

I'm not looking for an Y-580 as it is out of my 500 budget. I've been looking for the best deal here in Portugal for almost a month, but if you have suggestions from over there in Malasya, I'm all ears ^^

Z480 ?
3rd Gen i5, 1TB HDD, GT640M, Win7 Home Premium 600euro
Y480
3rd Gen i7, 500GB HDD, GT650M, Dos 630euro
G580
3rd Gen i5, 500GB HDD, GT630M, Dos 427euro

either way, I'd suggest that if you can't afford your dream, save up for it or just get something that fits the role if u can't wait.

Well....I could always try and play with 500 ping and see if anyone can even shoot me 😛

It would be tough if you kept moving. Where they shoot - you were but now are not.

I really can't go upwards of 500 euro sorry :) so the first two are out of question.
You are 100% right about the saving thing, but this isn't for me, it's for my girlfriend's parents and, next year, moving on to their son, who's going to college. The initial budget was around 400 and the 500 mark is only because I said what you said (basically that it is something worth saving up for / investing in, especially when you want it to last a good 4-5 years), and because I'm chipping in as well.

That last one seems like a really good deal. Here my best deals were, with discount, these:

i5 2410m + GT 610M (500, with a 62 dollar discount)
i3 2310m + GT 630M (535, with a 12 dollar discount)

Both Clevo W251.

How much would it be in terms of getting it from you to me? Not really sure on the costs involved, but I'd have to work from there. Also, if you could give me a couple good websites (in English preferably xD) you'd be buying from, I could do the searching myself :) although that last option did seem great. Lastly, how would it be with warranties, would you know?

Thanks so much!

This wouldn't really happen if you have the server stuff concentrated on the server side right?
That way, only the lagger will have an issue.

Oh yea, new Laser weapon 😛

I get my computer parts mainly directly from the distributors, so....not able to help you there 😴
you can refer to companies like PCzone and cycom, but they don't really sell many laptops AFAIK.
As for Warranty, the G series usually come with just 1 Year, upgradable to 3 Years Onsite,
Y and Z 2 Years international warranty, Thinkpad line 3 Years Onsite.
