Current system:
OS: Windows 7 64
CPU: I7 2600k
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P67A-D3-B3
Ram: 8GB ripjaws
GPU: evga GTX 465 (superclocked)
PSU : 850W TT modular

So I currently run BF3 at HIGH smootly but I was wondering what I would need to run it at ULTRA. Could I just buy a new fan to replace the stock one and overclock my CPU or do I really need a new videocard(if so, which one?)?

I don't currently have a budget but I don't really wanna pay the full price of a 580.

I think it will give you a nice bump in fps but not by much as this game is more or less totally gpu bound.

That's what I thought, maybe I should check my current fps ingame and see what is worth doing. I just want to run BF3 at 150+fps at decent graphic settings so my 120hz doesn't look choppy.

I have just upgraded my graphics card from a 3870x2 to a 6850.

Rest of my specs are q6600 2.4 ghz and 4gb ram

With the new card I can run at ultra settings 1080p in single player (deferred anti aliasing off ) and average about 45 fps and never drops below 30 fps.

the card only cost me £119 on Amazon.

Why would you want 150+ fps if your monitor is 120hz. On your first post you asked what you would need to run on ultra, if you want 150+ fps on ultra your going to need 3 580s.

It would barelly be an upgrade for me from an EVGA GTX 465, I'd rather know if I should or not buy a ~60-80$ CPU fan instead of upgrading my GPU. Plus I want to hit ~140 FPS to match my 120hz and I currently get around 100-120 at high settings depending on the server/map/number of players.

Why do you want to run it at 150fps? Couldn't you just lower your refresh rate of your tv to 60hz?

Your board Im pretty sure does not have the SLI option, Correct?

I don't think there are any single cards that can run bf3 at ultra with that many fps.

upgrade your gpu - from experience your gonna get more gains with a gpu upgrade than overclocking your cpu.... especially because bf3 is very graphics intensive.

check out this link http://www.techspot.com/review/458-battlefield-3-performance/ it gives you a good idea of what fps to expect from a handfull of high spec gfx cards....

going by techspot benchmarks I suspect your target of 140 fps at high settings is gonna need a pretty expensive card.

what resolution do you play at at high settings to get 100-120 ??

To the OP, a single card is not going to get what you want. It will not happen. You are better off waiting for the 600/7000 series. Those cards probably won't fulfill your needs either.

If you really wanted to get those kind of fps (don't know why you would want to). Then you have to upgrade your mobo and buy 3 580's or 2 590s, or 2 6990s.

At that point your spending over 1k easy, and that's just crazy.

Did you not read my earlier post? I know that its not going to happen, I was the one who told him he would need 3 580s for 150fps on ultra which is pointless anyway.
