Harddisk connected via 80pin cable to HPT366 udma66 controller, DMA 4
(ATA66) enable in controller bios (1.28) but win xp transfer rate is slow,
R/W ~10MB/s.
Differet diagnostic tell me to enable DMA via driver (1.30 beta or older),
but HPT driver doesn't have this option.
How to solve this problem?
Now I have better performance (~26MB/s) with 440bx integrated udma33
controller and microsoft made driver (5.1.2600.1106) with DMA anable.

this has been an issue with various hardware configurations on the Highpoint
366 controller. since the OS sees the controller as a SCSI controller, you
do not see the DMA modes like you would on an IDE controller.

bottom line, changing the jumpering to Cable Select (CS or CSEL) can
sometimes help, trying various drivers/bios combinations as well. I had
good luck with 1.25.1 drivers and bios, myself. if still no joy, give up on
it and get yourself an add-in ATA100 card or something like that.
