Oh my, I don't get that, it's just a SCORE. Sure it shows the performance of your computer, but why LIE about it. Well I am one for making my comp the fastest it can be, but in the long run, it's still just a score. Think of it this way, All this competition, of everybody wanting the best score, just makes us now and SPEND MORE MONEY.

AHH......... a pondering thought....

Maybe MADONION are working together with all computer companies to show us our BENCHMARK's and it makes us compete and SPEND MORE MONEY so we can be the best... just a thought.... doesn't mean it's true.

And one more thing, without BENCHMARKS how would we really know if your buddy down the street has 200 more points than me. Cause with BENCHMARKS, if your friend has a higher score than you, I bet you want to have a higher score, So what do you do........SPEND MORE MONEY.....

I think the worst score i ever had on 3DMARK 2001, was with 2 systems ago:

AMD T-bird 850
128 SDRAM
ATI Rage Fury 32 meg
Asus A7V

and the score was 1473

Or close to that, I remember I was almost SICK to my STOMACH, so I went out and UPGRADED within the nest week

Which goes back to my POST 1 up from this one.... WE ARE SPENDING MONEY TO GET A BETTER BENCHMARK!!!

Yup, I'm definitely spending money on a higher benchmark score.
My previous system (which I still have) was an Athlon 800Mhz @ 824Mhz & a Geforce 2Ultra, and I got annoyed at not being able to see the DirectX 8 tests in 3DMark2001...
(Was scoring about 3800 or something... may have been 2800? can't remember)
So I built another PC.
Do I notice any difference when playing UT? NO.
Do I notice a huge difference to my credit card balance? YES!

Ah well, at least I can have some good multiplayer run-arounds with a friend now, and not go out and spend money...

What can I say? I'm addicted to SPEED! which I don't notice! how stupid does that make me?

<font color=blue><i>Your</i> PC may be quieter, but <i>my</i> PC makes a better hairdryer!</font color=blue>

1. Do you know the difference between a Radeon 32MB DDR, a Radeon 64MB DDR and a Radeon 8500?

I was getting in the 6,000 with an AMD tbird 978, 512 pc-133, and <b> <font color=green> Radeon 32 DDR</font color=green>. </b> No offence but that's really LOW
I had a AMD 978
512 PC-133 RAM
and <b><font color=green>ATI Radeon 32 DDR </font color=green> </b>
not to mention Asus A7V KT-133 MOBO (Best OVERCLOCKING BOARD)
and the score was 6,000+
I just upgraded my system from:: A7V-133 978Mhz to
A7V333
AMD 1900+
<b><font color=green>ATI Radeon 8500 </font color=green> </b>
Creative Audigy
512 DDR Ram 2.5CL
Maxtor 80gig 133
and now I am Running
Asus A7V333
512 DDR
AMD 1900+ 1.6ghz
<b><font color=green>ATI Radeon 64meg DDR </font color=green> </b>
and getting 8,000+
Score 6348
Date 2002-03-27
CPU AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 978 MHz
<b><font color=green>GPU ATI Radeon 8500 </font color=green> </b>
Score 8610
Date 2002-05-18
CPU AMD Athlon(tm) XP/MP/4 1620 MHz
<b><font color=green>GPU ATI Radeon 8500 </font color=green> </b>
Apparently not.

2. Do you know the difference between posting a link to a Madonion.com published score of yours and posting a list of your “hypothetical” figures?

3. Or you are under the impression that you posted a link to <b> YOUR</b> scores with that http://service.madonion.com/servlet/Index?pageid=/orb/projectmanager <font color=green> <b> crap </b> </font color=green>?!?!?! <b> <font color=blue>LMAO </font color=blue> </b>

That will only link every individual Madonion member to <b> HIS OWN </b> projectmanager. <font color=blue> <b> ROFL</b> </font color=blue>

Try sth like this <A HREF="http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=1673254 " target="_new">http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=1673254 </A> (best Athlon-1533MHz- & <b> <font color=red> Radeon DDR </font color=red> </b> 3dMark2001 score)

Oohh! But I forgot, you think that Radeon 32MB, Radeon 64MB and Radeon 8500 is the same thing! <b> <font color=blue> LMAO </font color=blue> </b>

Try reading a little first, before you go taunting and insulting others with bullshit.

You should do 3000-4000.

Apart from the latest drivers that phsstpok suggested, you should also keep in mind that you need to stop any other program running (from your task manager).
Also turn off any desktop background theme and try turning the sound off and defragmenting your HDD.

But my best guess is that you may have other tasks running in the background.

Thanks, but I doubt it is something related to the drivers of the mainboard,as the benchmarks I got on SisoftSandra are ok. However, I noted that, though the "AGP fast write" option is enabled on the Chipset options, the Sisoft Sandra application states that it is "disable". Can it be the source of the problem? Could it be because some of the tests run are skipped during the process ("no hardware support")? Appreciate any additional thoughts!!

PS: The only background application running is the SB Live Surrond Mixer.

Could a background application make such a big difference? I guess the only application that I had running was the SB Live Surround Mixer and the Nomad Jukebox detector. Where did you get your version of 3D mark from. Is it shareware? Thanks for the help.

Hi Andre,

Goto www.madonion.com to get 3DMARK 2001 SE
yep you can download it, and yes it's SHAREWARE
but you can run 17 of 21 of the tests.

HAVE FUN

Disable fast write, set AGP apperture size to at least 64MB (better 128).

Your 3d mark version is ok. Some tests are ment for DirectX 8 hardware support (GF3-4, R8500) so your mx400 will skip them.

Definately kill every background task.
in win98 you should have only system, systray, and explorer running before starting 3dmark.

the latest graph card & motherboard drivers may have a huge impact on your 3dmark score (3d-AGP) but not on Sandra benchmarks (CPU-RAM).
Don't rely on the CDs that came with your hardware.
Download the latest official drivers.

Usually when 3D peformance is 50% low it is because the AGP driver has not been installed or it is not operating currectly. About 1/3 low can mean that AGP is at 1X, although many things can slow down performance. I always suspect the AGP driver first, though.

Does Sandra detect that AGP is working and if so is it running 1X, 2X, or 4X?

As for Fast Writes, the nVidia drivers disable this function by default to avoid compatibility issues. If you want to try it you will probably need a third party utility like Geforce Tweak to enable Fast Writes for your video card.

I don't use Fast Writes because with my Geforce2 card and Windows 98SE I just get a black screen when Windows is supposed to start. If this happens to you, boot to Safe Mode and disable Fast Writes with Geforce Tweak.
