I have been looking at these monitors recently and am wondering the differences between the FP241Wz and FP241VW other than the aesthetics around the screen. Also, are these monitors good for the price? I am considering these and the Dell 2407, but am thinking about paying the extra $$ for the HDMI slot. Any information is appreciated.

Edit: Forgot to mention I will likely use this for PC gaming, as well as hooking up a PS3 for games and Blu Ray.

I've been doing some research on the BenQ FP241WZ myself and it is on my short list. The thing that got me is the sheer number of different connects. The BFI tech is questionable though. In some cases it seems to work, in other cases image quality seems to suffer a little bit depending on the game.

However, considering the fact that the BenQ FP241WZ is around $750, spending another $250 I can step up to the 26" Planar PX2611W monitor which uses a S-IPS panel; the Holy Grail (but expensive) panel tech when image quality is a must. The PX2611W has a response time of 5ms when RapidVideo is enabled, otherwise it is 12ms.

The Dell 2407 is a good for the price though. Unfortunately you just missed a Dell sale. The 2407 was selling for something like $550, now it's back up to around $620.

Thanks for the good info. Do you know if there are any differences between those two BenQ models though. I noticed one other model seems to have HDMI 1.1, but these two seem to be the exact same other than the look of the bezel around the panel.

To tell you the truth I never really looked at the VW model. There's no height adjustment.

Other than the physical difference between the two monitors, the only possible difference could be the LCD panel itself. The WZ uses a S-PVA panel made by AUO which BenQ confirmed in a statement I've read.

The VW is rumored to be using a Samsung S-PVA panel, but I have not found a reliable source of information. Therefore it is possible that the VW could be using the same S-PVA panel found in the WZ which is made by AUO. Which would make sense to me since BenQ owns shares of AUO stock.

I know BenQ sold some of their AUO stocks, but I don't know if BenQ sold off all their shares.

I thought S-PVA was made by Samsung, not AU Optronics?

Also, I read somewhere that WZ (or at least some of thee WZ models) use A-MVA technology, which is apparently better than S-PVA. While the VW uses S-PVA for sure. In that case, WZ might be better than VW, because of the different panel they use.

AFAIK, S-PVA is strictly Samsung and odds are that a BenQ Monitor will have an AUO panel because BenQ owns some portion of AUO. This does not prevent BenQ from using a panel from a competitive vendor of course, but they will most likely turn to AUO first... .

The WZ uses AUO's new A-MVA technology. A-MVA is an improved MVA panel but it probably cannot be directly compared to a PVA panel as the two technologies still have their own strengths and weaknesses.

As for which monitor uses what panel, have a look at this post which contains a link to a useful panels table...
