I have just steped over the GL2760HE from BENQ (I would like to switch from my 24'' lcd into something bigger, and I heard BENQ is good). I admit it was the price of this one which attracted my eye.

(edit : the main purpose - GAMING)

I am ok with it being "only" FHD (my rig would die on something bigger, I assume). I like the 2ms latency... But I am confused about other specs

- color depth 6 bit? Is this good? Is it bad? Does it matter? (afaik there is 8bit alternative only)

- brightness 300 cd/m2 - absolutely no clue whether this is good or bad...

A review of somebody who has that monitor would be helpful.

Thanks a lot

Christmas sales won't be till november, silly to wait especially considering it's usually the stuff that doesn't sell going on sale.
I would just stick with your current 60Hz screen with those specs imo, 144hz won't see a true benefit unless you have a more powerful card.

For monitors -- it is 6bit OR 8bit ONLY (alpha channeling turns this into 24 bit or 32 bit respectively), afaik (now, and I may be wrong... again)...

In the meantime I figured that 6(8) bit on monitor means 24(32) bit on monitor, yeah quite obvious, but I had no idea bout this. I believe I am personaly unable to see the difference, but I would like to test it first. However all lcds I can get hands on seems to be 6(24) bit... (that is why I need to test my eyes ability to recognise the difference)

Is there a way to test this without going to shop and trying to compare it there? (which is tricky as I would not be controling the device, nor able to check its internal settings nor able to check the system setting of the rig) As when I find a picture of 24bit vs 32bit color depth, I will allways display it on the 6(24) bit lcd 😀

My rig : FX 4300, R9 380 2GB, 16 (4x4) GB DDR3, SATA III HDD (no SSD); Win 10 64bit - I believe 4k is beyond capability of my rig (lack of VRAM above all in this particular case)

Good question... my current one is 60Hz, seems ok, but again - I would need to test this over e.g. two gaming nights whether the higher refresh rate does not fit me better (less tired eyes...) - I have no idea. (thus I picked again 60Hz) I do not think our local retailer would be willing to spare a high refresh rate piece for me for couple of days 😀

Budget... In theory up to 300 bucks... But the less the better, if a certain level of quality is kept. And under 200 $ would be preffered (I am in non USD/EUR country, with our proud, but weak currency) - and discussed BENQ piece did fullfil this optional task :)

Furthermore - I am in no urgent need of new monitor, I have a decent (but 6 bit as it seems) 24" lcd of Acer, however I am not at home just now, and I have no idea about specific model Acer (I think its S242HL, but I may be completely fooled) - I do however remember the color depth information was nowhere to be found when I was picking it, so in such case I allways assume the worse (back then I decided to ignore this information)

So I am a little bit stuck. I have no idea whether my eyes will recognise anything better. Only thing I do like on 6bit LCDs is their lower latency. The current Acer LCD has 5 ms and my previous 4:3 19" LCD was 2 ms - the difference is huge in favor of the older LCD. Thus this is a pro for the discussed BENQ.

Well... Depends, I prefer e-shop(s) for the actual purchase, but for the testing I would visit some chain like Electroworld or Datard... And there it really depends on the actual staff present. Somebody will get honest with you and give advice beyond the "must sell" strategy. Usualy but they need to land a sale. Also they cannot connect two monitors to same PC and make comparison.

Yup 60 Hz and FHD resolution and I have to yet find a game which I would not run (Witcher 3 awaits on this in my digital library) smoothly on max settings.

In the meantime I dug out some info about Acer LCD family I use and if one can belive user reviews, it will die next year soon after the warranty expires. So I will probably wait until then... On the other hand, I would not like to miss a good deal. Within month we will witness the Chrismass "sales" and "discounts" (20%+), so just now it may be good time...

Damn... I do not know :)
