Quick question.. I purchased this monitor awhile ago and have been running it with a HDMI cable but have read several posts saying that using HDMI cable caps me at 60hz refresh and not 120hz-144hz... is this true?
If so I feel like such an idiot, how do I get 120hz - 144hz from my screen?

Solution
Yeah HDMI is limited to something like 1080p on 75/60hz and only 720p if you want 120hz.
You'll need a DVI-D cable, they're able to push 1080p at 144hz.
It's also possible on Displayport if im not all wrong, but your screen doesn't have that port. 😉

So you'll need to use DVI-D to achieve 144hz on your monitor.
Hi, so I came across this posting having the exact same problem as you. Could not get my XL2411Z to run at 144Hz, and it was a real pain in the a**... None of the suggestions above worked for me so I fiddled around a little myself.

First, bring up this picture http://www.datapro.net/images/dvi-config.jpg (creds to KevinAr18). The cable I use is a DVI-D dual link, bottom right, with the same pins on both ends. Plugged it in the GPU slot that had the same port and the screen went all blurry when setting it to 144Hz in windows (1080p still). Ended up trying to plug it in the DVI-I slot in the GPU, bottom left on the picture, and for some weird reason this worked. Now it's running at 144Hz and no problems.

If your GPU doesn't have such a port, I don't know what to do, sorry. But hope this helps. Thread might be dead aswell, atleast I tried!

Specs: BenQ XL2411Z and GPU: Gigabyte Geforce G1 Gaming GTX 970. And the cable was from a third-party(produced by Belkin).

Just so you are aware, the reason it didn't work was because the card most likely did not support Dual Link DVI-D in that other slot. Just because they have the holes for the pins does not mean they support Dual Link DVI-D. Almost all ports on GPU's will have all the holes except for the analog optional slots, which sometimes is on only one, but often they are still single link. I think they do this so that cables are compatible, as a lot of monitors come with single link cables that have all the pins.

I've tried them both and sadly no luck. I heard there is a switch inside your mobo what can change it from analogue to digital DVI-D depending on your model and that can fix it?

Thanks,

I've never heard of such a switch, but it wouldn't matter, this isn't a digital vs analog issue. It is a dual link vs single link issue. You should be plugging it into the GPU, not the motherboard.

Yer I know, Its plugged into my graphics. Just heard this on a forum somewhere, anyway looks like I'm stuck at 60hz for life 🙁

I have a custom tower, It has a "DVI-D port" (written on the metal), I might just go look for another DVI-D what is worth a little more and hope for the best!

On some GPU's, the DVI-D is a single link. The one labeled as DVI-I is the one that is almost always a Dual Link port.

So what I need is a DVI-D to DVI-I??? Or just use the DVI-I port (Already tried that, but didn't make a difference.

Yer its labeled DVI-D duel link, I'm just going to go get another one of a better quality.

It could be a defective GPU as well. You can try another cable, but if that doesn't work, you may want to try RMAing the card.

Hopefully It's the cable, thanks for all your help :)
