A friend asked me to built a cheap computer for him, about 300-350 dollars. He is going to give this to his kid, and probably the most demanding game he plays his Need for Speed underground or something. (Forget about FEAR :)) What is the best agp card that i can buy under 50 bucks? Preferibly from newegg.

It seems to me like evga fx5500, i bought that one before for a friend, and he is satisfied, but if buying fx5200, mx4000 or radeon 9250, 9200 can equally, or almost equally perform in the old racing games, then there is no need to pay extra 10 bucks.

Or do you think, there is no need for a video card since any onboard video can perform like these cards.

and i couldnt find a ti4200 in newegg, what gives?

Not sure what you have on board, but I know that when I upgraded to a PCI (regular no PCI-E) FX 5200 it made a DRAMATIC improvement. Before I was unable to even PLAY Sims 2, Half Life 2, etc...

Then I upgraded to a AGP Fx 5200 and its sooooo much better!

I assume that the 5500 is even better, as it was the card I couldnt afford when I bought the 5200!

Hmm. I know Ti4200s are old, but i thought since they have older video cards listed, whatever... Last one i saw was, about 2.5-3 years ago, a friend bought it to replace his onboard video card, after he bought a nicer monitor and onboard refresh rates were crabp. And i couldve swore i saw one at ebay about 6 months ago, but i am not sure. They have used ones at ebay...

By the way, what youve shown me is a mobility 9600. I dont know the difference, but it must be worse then the regular 9600. (No offense to radeon 9600 though, i love the radeon series, used 9600 pro myself for 2-2.5 years)

I do have an idea about the good cards and the bad ones under 50 bucks. But i want an opinion, or something, about the reliability, drivers, bundled games and programs and stuff. If you used any agps under 50 bucks and you were/are happy with it, this is the topic to post them...

No wait, my friend upgraded to ti4200 after i bought my radeon 9600, so it must be at most two years. Probably one and a half...

Look on eBay for $50.00

You might be able to snipe this one.
The shipping is rather high so don't forget to figure that one in.

This one doesn't look too bad either. Shipping is more reasonable on it.

Start searching and good luck!

i so wanted that too.

Never had an agp computer back then either. First agp card i bought was Radeon 9600, before that PCI Radeon 7000

My cousin wanted me to post this smiley
