Best antivirus software?

I have two questions.
1- Whats the best antivirus software in your opinion? I seem to think bitdefender is up there but can't buy any software for a few days yet. So what do you lot think?
2- What free software would you say is the best also? I think my system has windows defender on it by the way AND I am just about to get into the AVG trial for 30days. What are your thoughts on free antivirus software to please?
