Hey Friends,

what is the best GPU/Card to use for my work-only rig. I do mainly dev work, Webdesign, massive multitasking with sometimes over 50 browser tabs open on each monitor. I don't game on this PC at all.

My current Hardware:

CPU: i5 4690 @ 3.50GHz
Geforce GTX 750Ti
16 GB RAM
2 WQHD screens with a res of 2560 x 1440

Screens are connected with HDMI and one with DVI since the Card does not have DP.

My questions:

Is this a good way to drive the displays for the application described above?
When i am working with multiple browser tabs and applications I sometimes notice a lag when i am dragging chrome tabs from one screen to another. Also when i open a heavy page and scroll down while it is loading it laggs while scolling. When switiching to resolutions in the 1024 x 786 segment the lag doesn't occur so it seems like the GPU is having a hard time?

Does the GPU impact the performance at all or would an integrated GPU do the job with the same performance?

Would I benifit from upgrading the GPU or is it unrelated. Why do I get this slowdown with the system set up like this?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your answer. Well, I was thinking of buying a Ryzen upgrade but many tell me that the 8 cores won't be used to make my web browsing with multiple monitors and tabs faster because Chrome and other apps cannot use the 8 cores at all. I find it quite frustrating why noone seems to be able to give me a clear answer now how I can achieve a lag free multi taking experience with 40+ Chrome tabs open on 3 monitors... is the answer Ryzen? GPU? RAM? All at once?

I made a small Video showing you my problem exactly. I am opening the theme pages : http://sparks.mikado-themes.com/landing Maybe you can check it out on your machine? I already turned off hardware acceletration on chrome. It seems to help a little bit. Like I said, I am running 2 WQHD and 1 FHD screen on the machine. The GPU has almost no load during this process (20%) Here's the Video: http://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cbevXf6snh

doesn't seem related to the extensions. I tried a fresh install of chrome. Still the same problems. Can I provide you with any more data to pinpoint the problem? Can it be related to my 3 Screens being too much for the GPU and the CPU? I really want to get to the bottom of this....

Hello, P-Germany!
Your CPU should be able to tackle this no problem. Your RAM speed won't affect the performance of chrome by more than a few ms, no real need to upgrade the speed, your GPU won't affect web browsing too much. However, Chrome is known to be very RAM hungry upgrading the amount of RAM could benefit but your best bet would be to use a less resource hungry browser, and your networking could play a factor as well.

Thank you all for your input! I just ran a high load operation with my browser opening http://sparks.mikado-themes.com/landing all the demo pages at the same time in different tabs and the values you can see here:

https://www.screencast.com/t/WAc0xuolAF

Maybe it is GPU memory that is the bottleneck. As I have shown in the video you can see that the brower is lagging when scrolling up and down the page or changing tabs while the pages are loading and even when they are loaded. The webpages shown here are very complex (videos, paralax effects etc.)

I'd love if someone tried the same and opened all these pages at the same time and told me if the browser was slowing down in any way. Maybe it is an idea to reinstall windows and see if it is due to windows but when I am opening all these tabs the CPU load is at 100% on all cores.. I am still confused thinking I would need a X1700 Ryzen to fix the problem?

Question: Since the Gefroce 750Ti has only 2GB ram and its being almost entriely used up by my webbrowsing tabs. Would it make sense to take it out and use the integrated HD4000 Graphics with my 32GB of System memory? Is that worth a try?
