Hello every one.
I am installing A new fiber connection today of 200mbps / 80mbps down/up bandwidth.
my ISP supplies it own ONT (modem/router combo). However, I would prefer to use my own router.
my router is linksys EA6900.
my point is I want to setup my connection to best perform with my gaming console PS4 in first place and everything else come next.
I have several question and I will be very happy if someone would answer.
- my ISP uses PPPoE connection of 1492 MTU on the ONT, I cannot bridge the ONT due to VLAN issues, however, I can setup DMZ for my Linksys router to fix most issues with double NAT.
should my router MTU also to be 1492 like my ONT or the default 1500 ??
about my router:
it has several features like Media Prioritization, Cut through forwarding, UPnP and port forwarding. what should I keep ON for best latency measurement. Also should I turn the Firewall off on my router ?
I Know it is kind of lot question but I am not tech savvy . I hope someone can help ... thank you in advance !

Solution
It is your end device you would have to set the MTU on. MTU should be figured out dynamically by your end client.

The NAT by itself does most the firewall function. It pretty much is a rule that says no incoming traffic is allowed. The nat does not know which machine to send traffic to unless you setup port forwarding. Other firewall rules assume you have some issue with a internal machine access the internet.

I would not run any form of QoS you should not have issues because of the huge bandwidth you have. It is actually very hard to use 200mbps with anything other than torrent.

The other issue with QoS is you many times lose the hardware acceleration feature (this is called many things but itis likely the cut though...

The other issue with QoS is you many times lose the hardware acceleration feature (this is called many things but itis likely the cut though forwarding you mention). For people that have slower connections the router cpu can keep up. With a 200mbps connection you likely are going to need the hardware acceleration which means you have to give up features like packet filters and qos.

Thank you so much Mr. Bill001g ... that was very informative.
So I will keep Media Prioritization off , and enable CTF and UPnP.
I have already multiple gaming sessions the few ours ago . . it was very good.
thanks again my friend.
