What is the best cooler for the I5-3570K Ivy Bridge CPU (air or water cooled) in your opinion? (price is negotiable)

I'm not sure yet. It kind of depends on what case I end up getting.I'm not crazy about see-through side panels, will probably go with something that looks good but doesn't show off the insides.

Well MOST cases can fit in the h100i or 212 evo no trouble.

212 EVO is a very good "baby's first CPU cooler" You can experiment with OC at a low cost and it's nice and quiet.

If case size is not an issue and you want:

Air:
- Silver Arrow coolers are great.

Water:
- I like the Corsair H100i or if your case has 140mm fans the H110i.

but these are $100.00 coolers.

Personally I make my own cooling systems so I think this way. If you are looking for something cheaper let us know.

i know case choice is personal, but i want to state that the case should have at least 160-165mm clearance (or higher if you use noctua nh u14s).
if you don't use all the 3.5" hdd bays, try getting a case with removable/resizable drive cages. it might increase case price, though. another thing about the drive bays is that if the hdds are held in vertical orientation instead of typical horizontal orientation, it'll impede airflow from the front.

I strongly recommend you to go with either the NH-D14 or NH-U14S since they are of the best coolers you can buy. Here are two in depth reviews of the nh-d14 and nh-u14s handling a 3770K at 4.6Ghz.

How do they compare to the SILVERSTONE Heligon HE01 140mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler? The specs seems similar but the Silverstone is a bit quieter....and you can add fans for even better cooling. (not as good a warranty though)

Thanks. I checked on the discussion. Not to mention their customer service seems excellent. I posted a question with them about whether or not it would work with my board, late last night, and they already got back to me. I LOVE good customer service....and the 5 year warranty is better than the 1 year Silverstone.

Here's a little tip if you want to drop the temp on your CPU with the Noctua cooler. It has a pretty thick layer of nickle protecting the copper core. Sand that off at the base where it contacts the CPU, down to the copper, and polish it to a nice mirror finish. It works great! I actually dropped my CPU temp down 6 degrees Celsius. It works excellent now. And that 's at idle. I ran a benchmark and my CPU never broke 35 degrees Celsius....on stock settings. Next, it's time to overclock!
