Thanks a lot I've gone for the fx-8350 after all the great things about it here and used the money I saved to get another 8gb of ram

Should be yes.

Great thread here guys!

What motherboard and GPU would you pair with the i7 5820k?

Thanks for sharing.

Have you used it with After Effects?

My MacBook pro just can't handle it with 4k.

I think 5820K is best. I would avoid the FX 9590. You need to pay for a premium motherboard and top-notch cooling to run that thing, and it's just not worth it with an option like the 5820K that blows the I7-6700K even out of the water for video editing, especially with an overclock.

Also 4K is slow on any system a 980ti it one of the top 2 gpus for the public and any higher on CPU side your going with a 24 core exon or something like that ... Over 1k btw the hard drive is a big limitation once you have a system like that you need SSDs in a raid or m.2 else it will slow your high end hardware no optical drive should be used ever with 4K but I'm doing raw avi 1tb

Hey well thats lot of information really. Thanks... However I am planning to get the machine for myself. Well I will be majorly using 3 or 4 programs. Adobe premiere, Photoshop, illustrator and after effecta. The other program I am thinking to use is Nuke.

Now comes the configuration that will be -
Intel i5 6500 skylake 3.2 ghz
Gskill ripjaws vddr4 16 GB (2400 MHz)
Ssd 256 no idea regarding brand
HDD WD elements 7200 rpm
No graphic card (goes outta budget)
Motherboard - MSI z97
Cabinet - no idea

Please suggest. If it's correct things I am planning or what else could I get/replace to make it more effective.

I'm not positive but I think you don't overclock ram with skylake because the CPU controles the ram now not the motherboard if anyone knows more on this tell me if I am rong I know the 5930k/5960x is that way tho

Btw save for the 980ti it's so worth it in the long run I'm running sli and I'm very pleased with how it preformed

- Seems like someone needs to get his ass off the chair and find some good books or materials to study things around but hey, that's me. AMD for the people who try to get the works done with intellect. Slower? I'd like you to upload a video comparing both Intel and AMD Woking on a same task. A Mac can be winner but talking about a Windows PC with a Intel for granted, is but risky.

I'm not hating on amd but it's comparable to a pentium or a i3 at best and you got to look at ips " instructions per clock" it's key for video editing a old exon w3550 tramples amd and it's only 20 or so for the CPU you could pick a full tower and beet out amd for 150 and have a full system with 4/8 cores 6gb+ ram

Save and get something like the 5930k or better exon would be a good way to go get one that supports multiple CPUs and go that rout

Never ever get 9590 amd... I moan the day i bought it... It freezes if put through some pressure... U'll have to under lock it to keep it running ... Water cooler don't make a difference despite amd saying that it should be used with a liquid cooler and I do use it for video editing (mostly 1920x1080). I'm seriously thinking of degrading to 8350 or 8320. I'd appreciate ur help to chose. And I've spent too much money in amd now so no point switching to Intel really Coz I'll have to change the motherboard too which costed me £120.

Usually the freezing with that CPU is caused by the motherboard.

"GPU is not important in video rendering. It can help a bit, but video cards are more important for things like 3d modeling such as Maya and Cinema 4D."

I disagree that GPU is not important in video rendering. People can check following link out for an in-depth post on what the GPU provides in the video editing pipe line but Adobe has worked with NVidia to allow adobe's software (MPE) work with many aspects of the NVidia GPUs, in particular the CUDA cores.
