Best CPU combo w/ GeForce 7900 GTX?

I've recently got my hands on a GeForce 7900 GTX. I'd like to know what kind of CPU would be best to go with it. Right now I'm thinking an Athlon X2 4200+. Is that too slow? Any advice is appreciated.

no its not too slow.

not sure if you want to limit yourself to AMD. For a small difference in price ($10) you can get a Intel e4300. runs about 900 clicks faster in CPU test.

Klicks = Kilometers, or so I thought.

But yeah, the Intel offerings are far better right now from a cost-benefit perspective.

I know, I forgot which test I was running and what they measured in but there was 900 difference in the Intel favor. Go to the CPU charts, plug your choices in and try the PCMark 2005 CPU test

I'm currently using an Athlon XP 2500+ and Radeon X1800 AGP. So this is a pretty big upgrade for me.

I checked the CPU charts and didn't see any Intel E4300. I see the E6000 series at the top of the charts, though.

You are right. I used the slowest/cheapest Core 2 Duo on the list. The E6400 is probably out of date, and the E4300 took its place, but on that set of charts, you don't know for sure.
