Best CPU on a super tight budget? ( 50- )

I bought a graphics card the other day but I'm guessing its a good idea to get a new cpu to replace my Pentium also. I have a really tight budget and its for my optiplex 780. lG 755 Thx

You must first tell us what CPU you have so we know what to recommend for an ugprade. Also, what GPU did you get?

I got a Pentium e5800 and a palit gforce 1030

For what you'd spend on a new socket 775 CPU (and then hoping your Dell mainboard, cooling solution, and BIOS will support it), you could likely find a business i7-2600 coming off of lease complete with 16 GB of DDR3....

core2quad q9650 if you can get one at the right price.
Will need to purchase a new cooler too though.

Youre looking about the same single core performance but twice the multi core.

For gaming it will make a world of difference.

edit - non proprietary cooler mounting holes make this hard to recommend.
