hi guys so I'm starting to run more things in 4k and my processor can just barely record my gameplay/screen. Encoding gets overloaded at certain points. I was wondering if someone could point me to a prefferable CPU for 4k. I was looking at the i7 7700. I don't want the K edition because I won't be overclocking. Preferably a same socket CPU

My current build is:
i5 6400 Skylake
Rx480
16Gb Ram
Kingston SSD
1TB HDD
Gigabyte gaming k3 Mobo

Solution
well for your motherboard there is no better cpu than i7 7700/7700K
so you kinda replied to your own question.
if you don´t want to change the entire platform there is nothing else to do .

however if you would consider platform upgrade there are much better options available:
i7 8700 or ryzen 1700x would be a very reasonable upgrade .

yeah, problem is I wanted to know if there were any cheaper options to get 4k for like a cut price compared to a i7 7700, I'm looking to spend 200 pound, didn't really want to go over that. I would like to go to ryzen with the more cores etc...but It means buying a motherboard aswell

well upgrading to anything else but i7 7700 is useless on your current platform .
problem is: even i7 7700 is not that much of an upgrade over i5 6400 :
sure hyperthreading and higher clock speed will help but it is hard to tell if you will be satisfied with it .
