Bet you thought you'd never see this question again.

I have an HP Vectra from 1997 and a Dell e773 monitor. The Dell is beginning to fail and I'm in the market for a good replacement.

I know any LCD is more efficient and more capable than a CRT, but this is for form over function. With that out of the way, what should I be looking for?

Bonus points for beige, double bonus points for HP.

Thanks

Beige is not really a PC monitor color any more. Almost every monitor comes in either black or white.

approximately $100 will get you a decent IPS panel (178-degree view angle) 1920x1080 LCD monitor at 60 Hz.

LCDs are crisper and better than CRTs. Once you've used an LCD for a while, CRTs all look blurry. And in any case, I'm not sure anyone even SELLS CRTs any more

I would start my search at a thrift store. You can probably pick up a used CRT, if they have any, for under $20. Depending on the age and brand, there is a good chance the shadow mask will be wearing out and you may be subject to a bit of extra blurriness.

On the other hand, if you lived close, I would just give you one.

Best for the money!!?? LOL
People are TRYING to give these away but at this point I think most people have already recycled/gotten rid of them.

Found this though...

Also saw some on ebay...

One advantage to a CRT monitor is it's use in gaming. CRT monitors often were capable of a large range of refresh rates. I had a cheap 21" that would do 120Hz at it's full native resolution. No $600 gaming monitor price tag BS.

Also, you said form or function... Does that mean it needs to be square? (4:3 aspect ratio) Because they do make 4:3 aspect ratio LCD monitors.. (although fairly rare)

Used is about your best recourse.

At my local craigslist, there is a white(?) HP 21" CRT. For free.
It has been listed for a month...
