New build has Qty. (1) 1TB EVO 960, and Qty. (1) 480GB Optane 905p (in a Coffee Lake, Taichi MB).

*PERFORMANCE* wise, Which is better suited for the system/boot drive, and which is better for holding the Steam library and other Game installations?

Leaning towards the EVO for Steam since it's larger and more of a "write-once, read often" scenario, and the Optane for the system disk since it has higher endurance and better satisfies a wider range of access types, but interested in other opinions.

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.

optane should be the performance winner here for system but BOTH would be great for gaming, i am assuming you can boot from the Optane M.2.

I would go Optane for OS and office apps and stuff, then the 1TB for gaming! lots of space! super fast gaming access, games run fine on crappy HDDs, load times are greatly improved with the 1TB

That was my inclination too, but I appreciate your confirmation Peter & USAFRet since it would be a total pain to install and then decide I'm better off "switching". Ugh.
