i need a good anti virus download to get rid of some spyware on my laptop

I recommend Avast! But I always like to have a spyware software as well. I would recommend Superantispyware to clean up all that spyware.

Also there free.

Avast is real time protection, but the free version of SAS isn't.

That is the best anti virus for Windows. Microsoft released it for free but it's worth 180$ :O
