And surely your two chips are representative of ALL 8320s and 8350s out there... 😛

Overclocking is a lottery. You can draw a losing ticket with 8320s as well as with 8350s.

Yea, you are definitely right. All chips are different, I am just basing off of my personal experience. We all know personal experience isn't always the most sound evidence, but I haven't found much else to go on concerning this topic. A few people have been asking about the performance comparison when overclocking and all I can tell them is what I've seen, and also that I'm not sure, and according to some they are the same chip. Not too many examples of 8320's with comparable overclock speeds to an 8350.

It's by no means a large list, but here's a list of FX-8300 overclocks. I'd swear I saw a larger database several months ago, but I can't seem to find it (but I recall many more listings than this one).

In last month's update, the intention was to discuss Richland, however this never materialised. This month, Richland isn't even mentioned at all and has been replaced by talk about Kaveri. I know Richland won't be a significant jump, but it's almost as if it never existed. Shame. Still, as Kaveri is based on Steamroller, I can imagine it'll seriously put Richland in the shade within the next few months, assuming AMD gets it out.

No, this is the updated version of the article, released on May 16, 2013. The FX-6350 HAS come out, it's available at Newegg right here.

Im at a loss
My 3220 does not get better frames than my Q6600 @3.6 in any game I own using a gtx 570 so Im at a complete loss.
Fresh install of windows on the I3 3220 with 8Gb of ram it really isn't a comparable experience to me.

That is because your i3 isn't really an upgrade over your Q6600. i3 3220 is about on par to just a bit faster than a 3.4 ghz overclocked Q9550. A Q9550 isn't really much of a performance boost over a Q6600. It would take an i5 to get any more performance from CPU.

+1
The way it is at the moment is misleading. The hierarchy needs refresh. I can't see how an i7 950 is one tier slower at games than i3 2100 or FX4350 or Phenom II X4 975...

Yes they do. Maybe they should go to pricewatch first. Using just Newegg isn't helpful.

I would rather buy this 8320 @ $159.99 over a 3350p @ 180. http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?p=FX-8320BOX&c=pw&hash=f276gJb6cvWnCMlQvaXU2E0WQCcEmqAfoFFR6jNiVAQRKOFj4pCZYFWs7ELjcFmpaRnQLRkCc5O9nus1FNOTiOm7l28YpnArIxV9M1P%2FsfuSEJWWSowmNkxGF7A

same

frankly at <$120 i fail to see how the FX6300 this isn't the best buy on the list

I'ts been sub 120 in multiple places since xmas, it's been 5 months now, and Tom's still hasn't caught onto the best price/value chip out there. not sure what the holdup is.

I don't know about you guys, but i'd pick the FX 6350 over the Core i3 any day.
Be it for general or gaming performance, aside from power consumption it's clearly the faster CPU.

Tomshardware use the AMD market line sales value as the baseline for value, because shop x gets it for so much less or more is not factored in ore you end up with recommending only one reseller and thats anti competition so for that TH will not use the lowest price found but the AMD baseline.

I think the FX6300 and 8350 along with a 5800K should be honorable mentions they intersect Intel at the price points rather well and the A10 or A8 is a very copious workhorse when I had run it with 7790's and 650ti boosts.

i7 950 I assume? It is still a beastly chip if so. I would look at getting a GPU upgrade unless you are already running high end card/s.
