Hmm. This "Best Gaming CPUs For The Money" article is 2 1/2 months old now. What's going on here? Skylake is out now. What happened to the monthly updates?

Maybe a dumb question, but why isn't the 4690 included in the list? considering it's the highest end i5 that's not unlocked.

But doesn't the hierarchy list include all CPUs regardless of price?

The list is about the best gaming value for the money. The only difference between the 4460 and 4690 is 300 MHz on the main CPU, 100 MHz on the iGPU, and vPro support.

The extra iGPU speed and vPro are pointless for gamers. The extra 300MHz makes a very little difference for games as well. Basically, you'd be spending $40 extra for next to no performance gain. Again, this list is strictly about gaming. If you need the vPro for work and other things, that makes a difference.

If you're not going to overclock the CPU ( which is largely pointless for games ), there's little reason to get the highest SKU in a product line.

June was the last update, and Intel has a new line out, and STILL no update for best CPU for the money? Toms used to be my go-to for tech news, especially in the PC market. You guys aren't even trying anymore it seems like. The G3 review was close to a year after release.

Guess I will start looking elsewhere for tech advice.

Good question.
These "Best for Your Money" articles factored heavily into my current build. I would certainly be using an FX-4100 now instead of a faster and far more efficient Sandy Bridge Core i3 if not for "Best for...".

Skylake or bust at this point. Unless you want one of those nice 59xx's. They are even better for gaming than Skylake at the expense of some power. When you throw in a GPU power though who cares about a few watts here and there.

I just got a 4460 and an Asus H97 PLUS and believe that it was a sensible decision for the two years to come.

AMD having nothing to match the i5 series currently. It makes me sad but there is no way I would even consider an AMD CPU right now and honestly it's been that way since about 2009.
That's not to say AMD CPUs are bad, they just aren't as good.

Another month gone by and no "Best for the Money" updates. GRRRR!
That "Best Smartphones" article should not be here. Time wasted that should have been spent on a multitude of new cpu's, ssd's, etc...

The fact that we saw a "Best Graphics Card..." update is encouraging. Hopefully we will see CPU and SSD updates soon. I won't hold my breath.

Over the years many of us refer to these articles to make informed decisions about builds and upgrades.
C'mon you Tom's Hardware guys! Can't we please have monthly updates again? Or if you are cutting back. A bi-monthly thing would work too. 4 months is too long!

Even just a post that says as of October, nothing substantial has changed, these are all still good buys or whatever would be great.
